Walsdeck

Walsdeck is a small whaling village in the north. It's primary economy is based around hunting whale for meat, leather, oil, and ivory.

Demographics

Most people in Walsdeck are either whalers, or work to support this industry. The population is mostly human with some dwarves operating the ship repair yards and lumber mills. There are numerous over species employed in various jobs around the town.

Government

Walsdeck is managed by a council made up of the heads of the various guilds. Working together these individuals keeps the village running.

Defences

Due to its norther location, and being wedged on a small strip of land behind a rock formation the village does not need much in the way of defense. It has a smaller than usual garrison of soldiers and a series of small walls and palisades for defense. Whalers are known for their strength and ability to throw a harpoon meaning most if not all villagers can put up a fight.

Industry & Trade

The village is based around hunting whales that approach or enter the harbour. These whales are processed into meat, oil from the blubber, leather for sails and ivory from the bones. This is the main export and the sole purpose for the villages existence. In a good year the whalers can hunt up to 12 whales. As with most people in Nornhil they are careful to respect the balance of nature and not over hunt.

Infrastructure

This is a mostly industrial settlement with all the assets required to maintain the whaling fleet, including several smiths, lumber yards and a complete dry dock. The village boasts an impressive dock and warehousing facility to hold the whale goods until the larger merchant ships arrive.

Guilds and Factions

The primary guild is of course the whaling guild. There are several other small guilds, such as the lumber workers, Oilers guild and even a small collective of farmers. Their is a chapter of sea druids who advise and help keep the whale population healthy and sizeable.

Geography

Walsdeck sits on a small slice of land wedged into a large rock formation. This position helps it to avoid the bitter cold winds that roll in off sea as they head up stream. Outside of the village are a few small lumber camps and the occasional farm.
The village has easy access to the fresh water harbour which provides access to the northern ocean. There is a harsh beauty to the location and in the summer months it often attracts a small group of artists willing to try and capture this beauty on canvas.
