Rosborg, City of Lumber

Located at the meeting point of the Tindar & Kaeldir rivers sits the industrial city of Rosburg, the center of the Nornhil lumber trade. The Tindar, Ros & Kar forests are known for their wide diversity of trees and plant life. Different trees in these forests are sought all over the world for different uses. Along these rivers and through out the forests are numerous villages and camps set up to search and harvest lumber. The fresh lumber is then floated or shipped down the rivers to Rosburg, which forms the central trading point for wood.    Commonly traded lumber includes:
  • The Trolia is a rare dark wood often used for carving statues and ornaments.
  • Grand Cedar, Twisted Leaf, Fjord Oak are strong woods used in ship building.
  • The bark of the Sad Sycamore is processed into a sweet smelling incense.
  • Etracow is a softer wood popular for furniture, carts and coaches as its softer nature absorbs bumps and shocks.
  • Sporketto is sought by the wine makers of Lidkrona for their barrels, as it helps to impart a soft mellowness to the wine.
  • Monk's Hazel, Thove & Moon Oak are sought for their decorative properties.
  • Yellow Willow is a light but strong wood used by the Gnomes in the construction of their airships.
  • Red Hazel is a popular wood sought by the Eleven kingdoms of the south.

Demographics

Moving significant quantities of lumber requires considerable infrastructure, from cranes, carts, even down to the roads. Everything must be of the highest quality and durability to keep the city moving along. To support this Rosburg has the largest population of Dwarves outside of the Dwarven cities themselves. Most of these Dwarves are involved in the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure between the storerooms and docks. The dock workers are predominately made up of Orcs & Half-Orcs, who are well regarded for their strength and stamina.  Rosborg and Gullborg are the only two cities with a large Orc population, who are welcomes and valued due to their strong work ethic.

Infrastructure

Aside from the cranes and workshops to support the docks Rosborg has a large number of horses, mostly of the Rosdale species. These are a small pony prized for its brute strength and ability to pull heavy carts along the cobblestone roads. The large population of horses produces significant quantities of waste, which is then dried and burnt as fuel around the city.

Architecture

Not surprisingly the architecture and construction of Rosborg is predominately wooden. The abundance and low cost of various woods means the city is not only made of wood, but known for its intricate carvings that cover every wall, every column and every exposed wooden surface.
