Gullborg
Gullborg is the seat of Hilstrung, and the royal city where the Quwwn holds her court.
Demographics
Predominately based around trade and the mercantile arts, the city is built around the large docks and markets that surround it. The population comprises of many tradesmen, sailors, merchants mixed together in a very cosmopolitan way.
Government
Gullborg sits at the center of nation, holding the royal residence. The city is formally run by the Hilstrung in times of peace, and the Military council in times of war.
Defences
Gullborg is built on a series of small islands and contains a mighty wall to protect the city and it's inhabitants. The great wall protects against attacks from the land while the sea wall protects from water borne threats.
A series of watchtowers and forts provide early warning of potential hostility and expanding the defensible perimeter of the city
Industry & Trade
Due to it's proximity to the mountains and dwarven mines Gullborg trades primarily in metals (iron, copper, etc), precious metals and jewels. This has made the city extremely wealthy and enables it to support many luxury and artistic industries.
The cities main import is food, as the surrounding areas support little farming.
Infrastructure
As a major trade center Gullborg is a rich, cosmopolitan city. Numerous resturants, and cafes line the promenade, food vendors line the streets.
The city boasts the largest docks in the north, supporting large trade cogs that travel to the south and smaller, nimble boats that penetrate the fjords and rivers to trade with the locals.
Geography
The city is tucked away in the crook of a fresh water river, safe from the storms of the northern sea.
The majority of the settlements sits on the bank while the docks are built upon a number of islands, both natural and artificial.
The river is quite deep while also quite slow moving making it a great natural harbor.
Farming is very difficult here as the soil is poor and not very fertile
