Folborg

The industrial city of Folborg sits at the end of the Kaeldir River, atop the Fol hills. This settlement drives much of the advanced manufacturing required by the Nornhil economy, and holds the largest dry docks and ship repair facilities in the country.

Demographics

Folborg is possibly the most multicultural city in Nornil, if not the world. Due to its industrious nature people from all species are drawn to the city to find work and make their fortune. This is one of the few cities where one will find Elven and Dwarven smiths working together. Gnomish inventors watch as Halfling foremen bring their vision to life.

Government

The city is ruled by the Council of Ten. The head of the ten most powerful families in the city work together to keep the gears of the city working smoothly. In order to keep the populace happy and most productive, and to solidify their rule, only the ten families pay taxes, and collectively fund the city. While their rule is not always popular, this arrangement has meant that few openly challenge the system seeking major change.

Defences

Being the center of industry makes this city of vital strategic importance. While the location serves as the 1st layer of defense the city also contains carefully placed war machines, look out towers and a stone wall. Sitting atop a series of hills also makes it difficult to besiege.   Folborg is the only city in Nornhil to maintain barracks inside the city, housing 2 detachments of troops. In addition Folborg also houses a large naval base and is the Navies primary ship maintenance facility.

Industry & Trade

Imports: The primary import is lumber from the surrounding region and metals from the Dwarven city up the river. The city also imports smaller amounts of other materials such as Spider silk for sails & hemp for ropes.   Exports: There is no primary export per se, but the city does take the above materials and process them into various goods required throughout the country. Pulleys, ball bearings, crane parts, agircultural tools, etc are all manufactured here to be shipped across the nation and beyond. This city has the skills, tools and resources to produce nearly any advanced good.

Infrastructure

Name a piece of industrial equipment and it can probably be found somewhere in the city. Folborg boasts furnaces and forges, windmills and weaving looms, dry docks and kilns. As THE industrial city of Nornhil if one cannot find the tools/machine they need, there is a guild, family, financier willing to help make it a reality.

Guilds and Factions

As expected in a city this size and with this diversity there are hundreds of guilds. Each discipline and profession each has their own guild. The guilds attempt to exert influence on the Council of Ten but ultimatly are ruled by the council and execute their bidding.

Architecture

The architecture of this city is mostly utilitarian brick. Most buildings are simple in their construction. The hills contain a number of fortified buildings and walls designed to protect the inhabitants in times of war. As the city has expanded long past these walls they have become more decorative and mostly symbolic. Each hill and fort belongs to one of the 10 ruling families.

Geography

Folborg sits at the end of a small peninsular that juts out into the Fol harbour. The city began at the waters edge but over time has grown up into the surrounding hills.
