Pegasus

Pegasus, the horse that was created from the love between Medusa and Poseidon.

Summary

Poseidon, the god of the sea loved Medusa. She was beautiful, so beautiful that when she asked Poseidon he said she was more beautiful than Athena. Athena did not like that a mortal thought it was better than her. She cursed Medusa for her grace. Her hair turned in to snakes and anyone that had a glimpse of her face would petrify. Poseidon objected to this and threatened to destroy Athens. Athena refused and the city of Athens was completely destroyed by an earthquake. However, there were no casualties. Athena had warned them and they settled somewhere else.
Did you really think you could outsmart me Poseidon? -Athena to Poseidon
Medusa, who had been forsaken by Poseidon hid in a cave. Nonetheless, Perseus came to kill her and killed both of her sisters, who were gorgos in the progress. Her head was cut off and out of her blood formed the winged white horse Pegasus and the giant Chrysaor. Perseus left with Pegasus and later gave the head to Athena who fused it in her shield.

Pegasus would be used in the many wars in the mortal world and the divine. He had white wings and looked like the mount of an angel. Where ever the pure horse would touch the ground a water spring would be created.
King Geofridas appeared on the battlefield riding Pegasus. He rode above the enemies while dodging all missiles and unleached a flame devastating the army. When he was finished only ash remained of his enemies. -In the diary of Homer about the battle between two city-states.

Historical Basis

Like every myth scientist and adventures have tried to find records and archeologic findings to know if pegasus exists. The gods refuse to talk about this. The only progress that humanity made on pegasus was finding a feather that never decomposed.

The feather that never decomposes

Many historians claim that this feather is from the mythical horse Pegasus because it was found near a stream on the continent Roma. Other reasons that this feather is from the horse is that when Poseidon was approached he bluntly smiled and said I can not say if it is. Maybe use your brain and test the qualities of the feather. With the results, you could maybe compare it to what you know of the mythical world The scientists disappeared along with the feather but they left their journal. In it stood the tests they were going to try but it never got carried out.

Looking around your site, I see some maps and that you are starting to adapt old myths to build a world. At first I thought it was just a home for old myths, but I see you are working on making your own story. That's cool!   I think most of the article here is background for Pegasus, and not very much about Pegasus himself. It would be good to know more of how Pegasus fits into the story of your world beyond one battle. Is Pegasus only an animal to ride, or is he a force that influences changes in the world?   (A serious note: we should only use Creative Commons license or public domain images on these articles - using an image from a TV show is not okay.)   Thanks for posting this, it is a good introduction to your world - and I liked the maps, too. Hope to see more as you build out your story!

Pretty brief, but it does a good job conveying a lot of the major information pretty well. Adding some more stuff on that sidebar would be an immediate and obvious way to really liven up the article in the future (I'm sure other things are on your mind currently, worldbuilding wise).   I think something that could be better elaborated on is the interaction between Medusa's blood and the formation of Pegasus. We get this image of a female with a head of snakes and can petrify people, but her blood makes a flying white horse. With little information, it looks a lot like a "because magic" scenario that I think could do well to have an explanation for its reasoning.   Hope this was helpful! Have a great summer camp!

While the title indicates the myth is about Pegasus, the majority of the story is about Medusa. Also, I'm don't really like the "Poseidon loved Medusa" angle having into consideration that in some real-world Greek myths the stories say that Poseidon raped Medusa.   I found the "feather that never decomposes" interesting, perhaps you could expand on it. Your sidebar is empty at the moment, so it may be one good bit of information to add in there. Why do people think this is a Pegasus feather and not some other winged mythological creature? Who discovered the feather? Where is the feather now?

I wrote another article that was pretty serious about rape and stuff but i was afraid to get the NFSW flag again. And it would be removed from the critique selection and because it's the second time it might ban me from the summer camp event
