Portaris

"Ah, Portaris... the jewel of the Sarpadon-Sector! Not that this means much... yes, I´ve been there. Conducted a few decent deals there, what with the sanctioned trade routes and supply lines there still nonexistant. Sometimes you just have to thank the Emperor for the sluggishness of His Holy Administratum, eh?   For a word that was taken into the Imperium´s embrace only a mere 500 standard years ago, Portaris is remarkably compliant. Sure, the decision to send mostly craftsmen and artists as "colonists", as they call them, instead of, say... soldiers and bureaucrats, to aid in establishing control over the planet, might seem odd. Some even whisper that is was simply a filing error. At the very least, Nova Albyon became quite pleasant for it´s size, that way. For a Hive City, at least...   And what does it matter if not all positions of power are filled with Terrans? The four continent´s previous rulers have welcomed the Gouverneur into their midst, conceded to her authority in planetary matters, and are smart enough to not give open reason to question their loyalty to the Golden Throne. So what´s the harm in letting the locals keep ruling their traditional regions? And if they now and again engage in their little wars, it only means the planet can provide more capable soldiers to the Imperial Guard, right? Besides, "Quintarch of Portaris" is quite the catchy title...   So yes, Portaris is a pretty sight, from up close. from the ice and snow of Ysmark, across the mountain ranges of Kjor, to the dense jungles hiding the Nine Cities... Portaris still has a lot that other imperial worlds already have lost. It just seems to be a decent place. Simple and calm. Almost creepily so..."
