Report: Supply Runners

Author: Aristide DecroixDate: 20 days post-Mist — Confidentiality: Public
Objective
Explain the job of supply runners to potential volunteers.
  Background
Since the Mist apocalypse, all our modern communication and transport technologies have stopped working. This has left us stranded, with few resources, and in a landscape filled with Mist monsters. While we can still make do for now with whatever food and medications we can find in Lille itself, this will not last and soon we will have to venture in the rest of the region. We also need to access more complex resources, such as specialised machineries for our research into the Mist and for developing and mass-producing weapons against monsters.
We therefore starts a call for volunteers to go into expeditions outside of Lille to gather resources.

Tasks

  • Venture outside of Lille's Camp under the protection of bodyguards from Lille's military forces to gather resources.
  • Follow the maps and instruction set out by our administrative research teams to reach the most interesting locations.
  • Identify the desired and/or most interesting resources to gather, find means to do so safely, and make note of anything relevant that you cannot transport at the moment.
  • Map the locations of world faults, concentration of Mist monsters and the most dangerous concentration of Mist.
  • Contact any survivors and invite them to come to Lille.

  • Dangers

  • From Mist monsters
  • From Mist contamination by exposure to monsters, or high level of Mist from world faults or from naturally gathered Mist, especially in metals.
  • From contaminated individuals.
  • From other survivors thinking they are in an American post-apocalypse film and that they have to compete with us for resources and survival.

  • Qualification

  • Able to obey orders without discussion while in a dangerous situation.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Careful and know how to follow safety procedure to explore while minimising the risks.
  • Can take initiative when isolated from Lille and unable to communicate with us.
  • Able to act reasonably while in danger.
  • General fitness (to be able to run) and self defence skills are not required but highly desired.

  •
The most important: Willing to risk your life for the good of the community and to have a high impact on our survival.

    Conclusion

If you want to volunteers, please present yourself as soon as possible to the administrative headquarters of the New Government of Lille.

      Update from day 180 Post-Mist
Supply runs are now done with folded spaces. Please note that this does not reduce the need for volunteers, on the contrary: we now have a far more ambitious supply gathering program, so that we can put everything we can to safety before it is lost or damaged.
This also both increases and decreases the safety of supply runs: by making them faster and reducing exposure to dangers and by having each runners carry a folded space and so being in contact with a small contamination risk.

As ever, love your work. This new world of the Mist is very intriguing. And with such an oppressive context, the Supply Runners really embody a lovely mix of hope and duty. Nice work :-)

Thank you! <3 Yes, in this survivors' community, everything is based around volunteering and giving people the motivation and strength to continue living and fighting for each other and for their pre-Mist values despite the apocalypse and hopeless future.   It's probably my story with the darkest context, and yet it's the most utopic one regarding human society and morals XD
