Personal history

Jayce Hawthorne was an orphan committed to the Temple of the Steel Crown as a ward. As he grew, he demonstrated a natural skill for conflict and shoulder his responsibilities with pride and honor. He proved himself a more than capable fighter and could take on his fair share of fighting and then some. It did not take long for him to be elevated to the status of a Crusader, an accolade he is still proud of to this day. However, upon being promoted, he was exposed to a dark truth at the core of the Temple's actions: The capture and enslavement of Sorcerer's to be used and harnessed for their raw magic power. Humanoid fuel for the flames of progress and industry. Jayce's faith was shattered and in a brazen act freed several enslaved Sorcerer's and fled with all haste. He does not know what became of those wretches but he safely absconded to the distant isle of Olim, far from his Temple's eye. He aims to continue to do good and to try and scrub free the associated guilt he feels in his unknowing participation in such a horrendous act.

Education

Jayce was educated and trained by a Temple devoted to Warfare. He was trained in particular with dexterous weapons, shields, and mastered medium armor. He became comfortable with battle and conquest, often serving as a mercenary or crusader for the causes of the temple.

Employment

Former Crusader of the Temple of the Steel Crown, Oath of Conquest.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Jayce was an adept at his temple and devout of the Conquest Oath. Warfare and conflict felt like home. His style of fighting kept him as an agile shock trooper, maneuvering around to his foes' flanks and causing severe casualties. He was honored by the Temple for his bravery and skill.

Failures & Embarrassments

He broke his Oath to the Temple of the Steel Crown and currently lives as an Oathbreaker.

Mental Trauma

Jayce struggles with faith. In himself, in his religion, and in others. As such, he does not take things at face value and tries to do everything himself. He also suffers from a minute Imposter Syndrome, not believing himself to be worthy of accolade or glory. He perhaps tries to hard to prove his own worth to others.

Intellectual Characteristics

Jayce could not be considered an intelligent man. He is, however, cunning on the field of battle and staunch in his defense and strong in his attacks. He does not ponder anything for very long unless it raises suspicion. Understanding that he has not a mind for heady matters, he relies heavily on his instincts and his physical prowess and social skill.

Morality & Philosophy

Being an Oathbreaker, Jayce takes little stock in codes of conduct or rules. He prefers to be free from the binds of any rules or strictures but will not make waves if it keeps him out of trouble. Jayce still, however, holds onto the inherent teachings of the Oath of Conquest, preferring to show strength over mercy and demonstrating a severe lack of mercy to his foes. Simply put, Exhibit and Respect Strength.
