Beloved

Pinegaard has numerous artifacts in the region, including swords that belong to great heroes. The dragon knight Hestia had a powerful blade, Beloved.   The blade itself came from the fang of Hestia’s lover, Flolagosa, the vampire dragon. They forged the sword and attached it to a hilt crafted from a metal hidden in the Applescarn Mountains.   The sword is two-handed, though it is said Hestia was so strong, she could wield it with one hand. What makes the sword stand out is the word “Beloved,” written in the draconic tongue, etched on both sides of the blade. Despite coming from a vampire’s fang, though a big one, the weapon isn’t cursed. The weapon itself glowed red when Hestia wielded it.   Hestia used the sword throughout her knighthood tenure, spilling much blood. She took the blade with her into retirement and it was thought lost when she and Flolagosa left the world.   Beloved was discovered in Hestia’s fortress after Rugal and his minions invaded it. He and his men attempted to use the blade, but it rejected anyone who touched it. Seeing it as useless, Rugal put it on display in the fortress’ lobby as a sign of his power - or so he told himself.   The blade would find its true heir in the dhampir dragonkin Duke Teadrinker, a descendent of Hestia and Flolagosa. He and his companion Mayble Teadrinker, no relation, defeated Rugal and his minions. During the conflict, Hestia’s spirit supposedly appeared and led Duke to the sword. He took hold of it and glowed bright red, signaling that Hestia’s blood returned to reclaim the fortress.   Beloved currently journeys with Duke, allowing him to use it. Although Duke isn’t obsessed with learning about his past, like some feel he should be, he does like the sword and carries it with him wherever he goes.
