Azael Lightbringer
Azael Lighbringer was the leader of the Searing Light, an organization focused on self-improvement, business, and community that secretly operated as a cult.
The man who would become Azael was a gifted child from the Autumn Court. He boasted high intelligence, was a gifted musician and was a successful businessman though he didn’t own any businesses as he preferred to have others do his work.
As a young adult, he joined a pair of guilds before forming the Searing Light. With the Searing Light, he wanted a group that emphasizes self-image, business improvement, and community bonding. Azael and his partner, Maie, brought in numerous people to the organization including rich nobles, heroes of children, and aspiring artisans.
Maie focused on the recruitment process and was the main point of contact while Azael developed self-help courses for his followers. He didn’t see just anyone - his followers had to earn the right to be in his presence.
Through the Searing Light, Azael met and seduced several women, especially rich noblewomen. He had a darker side, demanding obedience from his followers, and believing that everyone was underneath him. If there was a woman or position he desired and someone was in his way, he’d send that person on a mission. He had high-ranking members burn one of their arms as a sign of loyalty.
The Searing Light’s illegal activities, such as abduction, racketeering, and murder were tied to him. It was also revealed he killed three people in the Spring Court and their bodies were never found. In most missions, he didn’t act alone - choosing his followers to complete these tasks as another sign of loyalty.
Azael was taken down after members of the Silverflame Agency rescued a girl who he kidnapped. They tracked him to an abandoned tower on the southern tip of Pinegaard.
Former associates, business partners, and friends regarded Azael as a monster. Pinegaard residents who lost family members to the Searing Light demanded justice.
Azael was taken into custody but was later found dead in his jail cell. Although Azael is dead and his cult destroyed, some followers have vowed to avenge him and carry on his legacy.
