The Extended Dominion

The Extended Dominion is a secondary human nation, subject to the Kingdom of Man. It is bounded to the north by the Dwarf-occupied mountains and to the south by the sea. It's eastern most boundary is marked by the Sunrise Peaks, beyond which lie the Eastern Settlements. To the north-west are the Gnome Hills, to the south-west is the Dragonborn Empire (a peninsular) and between the two, a shared border with the Kingdom of Man.

The Kingdom of Man send a member of the ruling family to serve as the Exarch, holding office in the capital of the Extended Dominion- Schal. The Exarch's responsibility it to balance the influence of the noble houses and through them manage the Extended Dominion for the benefit of the Kingdom of Man.

There are six major noble houses, each with a strong presence in the capital, and throughout the Dominion. Each one claims a magical bloodline as part of the family's claim to their station in the Dominion. Not every member of the family exhibits magical abilities, and the differently sourced bloodlines have different patterns of manifestation. Those family members who do demonstrate magical powers tend to take elevated positions within their house, but many influential members of the houses are not sorcerers, and some of each family's sorcerers do not wield significant influence.   The House of Dracone has it's chief estates in Lintiumbia. The family have heavy influence on technology in the nation, owing to their ties to the neighbouring Dragonborn Empire, Gnome Hills and Dwarven Mountains. They also largely control trade with these important nations. They claim that one of their ancestors was gifted with the blood of a dragon. Inheritance of the power seems to be focused along the male bloodline.

The House of Glatnass count the city of Glatnausen as it's centre, but they are more prominent in the ports and at sea along the coast of the Extended Dominion. They control maritime trade with and between the Kingdom of Men and the Eastern Settlements. They claim that one of their ancestors received magical powers after being struck three times by lightning. Inheritance of the power seems to be to the elder children.

The House of Fengess hails from the city of Lofengesb, near the Sunrise Peaks, but members of their house are as active on land as those of House Glatnass are on the sea. They are tellers and collectors of stories. Whether for entertainment, influence, studies or knowledge, they are the ones who have and move information in the Extended Dominion. Even further into the Sunrise Peaks is the monastery of Uumangajit. They claim that one of their ancestors received enlightenment after extensive meditation deep underground. Inheritance of the power seems to be along the female bloodline.

The House of Pozkik has it's oldest estate in the village of Pfozkich. The family are involved in agriculture throughout the Dominion, having had great success with farming in the early stages of settlement. They claim that one of their ancestors gained power from a spirit of the wilderness. Inheritance of the power seems to be completely random.

The House of Skutter have their headquarters in Neubusenbach. They serve as the leaders of the priests of the various deities and provide for the spiritual and physical health of the people of the Dominion. They claim that one of their ancestors was imbued with the power of a star. Inheritance of the power seems to be to the younger children.

The House of Vostet operate out of a fortress in Sisahten, and they control the military of the Dominion. The military serves to protect the borders of the land and also enforces the laws of the land and edicts of the Exarch. They claim that one of their ancestors received power after a criminal group attempted to burn him alive for standing up against them. Inheritance of the power seems to be to the strongest willed.
