The Barchhouse (Dragonborn Style of home)

In the Dragonborn Empire some homes are grand, multi-storey constructions and some are simple wooden huts. In between, many Dragonborn live in a style of home known as a Barchhouse.

Exterior

Each Barchhouse will have a single, bright pastel colour that dominates. Any details will be in the form of neat geometric patterns, in a single, darker shade of the same colour. No one colour is particularly preferred for this application and there is no real correlation between the colour chosen for the house and the scales of the residents. One house may be all lime green, the next all sky blue, the next a brilliant pink.
These buildings are all single-story. Though the multi-story buildings common in the cities may follow some of the same style elements, they are not considered Barchhouses. The roof is typically tiled, using dull-coloured corrugated clay tiles. Along the edge of the roof there is a gutter that directs rainwater to a storage cistern inside (the Barch)   The Dragonborn treat the upkeep of their houses as of high importance. The walls are washed regularly and new applications of the coloured wash are given at least annually.

Interior

Inside, glossy tiles are favoured. Like the detail on the outside, the tiles follow simple, highly regular geometric patterns. These are also maintained to a shining polish. They tend to be white for the floors, with black accents. In the open living spaces, as in the ceremonial halls of other Dragonborn buildings, the tiles allow for precisely regulating physical positions for ritualised activities. As an example, a Dragonborn child may walk exactly halfway into the central room each morning, call a greeting to his parents, then walk by the exact same path to the kitchen for breakfast.
The walls and ceilings are coloured in the same way as the exterior. The ceilings are typically high (even given the height of the Dragonborn people), with high arched doorways between rooms.
While baths are not common, each house has a washroom. The washroom's central feature is the Barch - a large rectangular cistern, lined with lime plaster and glazed tiles. The Barch is filled by rainwater from the roof. Dragonborn then scoop water out for use at the basins in the room for washing clothes, linen or themself. The room typically also has a partitioned latrine.
