The Undermountain

Those who join ‘The Undermountain’ faction have a keen passion for discovering and delving further and further into it’s mysteries and battling the creatures within. They devote their lives to it and make a profit from discoveries that the faction leaders then sell on for more profit. Adventurers wishing to join the faction do so easily and they have large numbers but also the highest death toll. Restrictions: No tieflings or monstrous races in case the races find friends or allies in the mountain. Trial: No trial required. One must either be willing or able.

Structure

A Dwarf named Darvik Stonehammer runs the faction for now and has largely lived in Sapphire since… living his best life.   Running on behalf of Darvik now are three individuals:
  • One of Euphemia's old party members, a Forest Gnome named Jaxos Brightpenny. A Halfling Arcane Trickster rogue who sees his positions as an 'office job' and wishing he had the opportunity to brave the Undermountain one last time, perhaps the return of an ally represents that opportunity.
  • A High Elf named Gwythfar Freeshallow: A pragmatic Elf that sees her career as being in the administration of the Undermountain, if Jaxos represents the rough adventurer's spirit and advert for the Undermountain then Gwythfar represents the paperwork and admin of it... both important but one is, admittedly, far flashier.
  • Inder Strombolt- He acted as the main liaison of the Undermountain crew but, allegedly, reached a lower level than the faction can easily reach and found 'something' within that offered him the power and confidence to stake a claim to the mountain itself.

Public Agenda

Discovering the secrets of the Undermountains both for safety and profit

Assets

Wealth and Resources: Very rich due to constant discoveries of gems, gold veins and stores of runic energy along with the parts of creatures that act as collectibles. Members: betweem 700-900 but they freely come and go and so the space is treated more like a dungeon dive and a hobby then a requirement or a job. The Undermountain faction have only one base of operations: Fort Sun Break, a citadel that doubles up as a town of suppliers and military base almost. The fort stands over the only entrance to the Undermountain and stands watch day and night as adventurers and monsters emerge from inside... often both. The guards are often undermountain faction members on a break and so members of the Undermountain are often recalled for watch and guard duty if there are short numbers for payment.

History

The Undermountain was established by the Stonehammer family around 300 years ago and had a rough reputation on its inception, attracting foolish young adventurers and bandits looking for a quick score. Eventually, the Stonehammer's biggest coup, was convincing the hands of the jewelled lands to decree that Fort Sun Break be handed over to the Undermountain faction.    After this they experienced a slow rise in fame until Umbra Remedium decided to raid the Undermountain. This created the sensation of 'celebrity adventurers' and drew far more attention to the Undermountain, establishing it as one of the strongest factions throughout Peridot. Since then, the Undermountain has continued to grow from it's popularity but is currently wrapping up a crisis as Strombolt has holed himself up in the Undermountain and killed all that have entered whilst seemingly gathering an army of monsters beneath.
