The Simic Combine

The Simic Combine are a fairly balanced faction. On the front they support genetic modifications of crops and animals in order to help farming and harvests, they also take the farmers faction under their wing to improve crop yields and take their share for testing.   The faction also have made alliances with almost every other faction at this point as they seek to further and further extend their knowledge and researches. They regularly support the crimson blaze in their hunting of monsters in return for more test subjects for their slightly darker side.   The Simic Combine's truer purpose however was for modification of the humanoid form, utilising various experimental methods with artificers, sorcerers, druids and wizards. They seek to modify the humanoid gene pool to give them more and more advantages and survivability. This has become known as 'The Guardian Project' and is a secret project for a variety of reasons including the fear of arrest, losing funding or even having their research stolen.   Recently though, the Combine have been sending out modified agents for field work in an attempt to learn more from the runic energy infected across Peridot and seeing if they can learn from the natural mutations of creatures in marine life or even the uniquely mutated 'afflicted' drow.   Currently the Simic Combine has the following ranks and members:
  • Guardians- Soldiers and mercenaries that augment themselves with the combine and generally are sent to deal with created monsters and experiments gone wrong. They are generally ex-military and many do not come from Peridot as they seek foreign mercenaries to avoid bad publicity. Project leaders are often given two guardian soldiers with their research teams to assist them in their work.
  • Clean-up/Truthsayers- Propaganda, spin artists, lawyers and professional liars. They typically work with guardians to act as clean up crew and ensuring that the more controversial aspects of the simic combine go unnoticed.
  • Test Subjects- Low rank combine members who learn on the job and often do not leave in the same way they arrived.
  • Scientists- lackeys of project members and generally work in the stores and labs or are assigned to a project leader to assist them. Eb is an example of a scientist member.
  • Project Members- Those hand picked by a project master to complete field work and work hard for an opportunity to be given more resources and trust, this is a tough role to get promoted out of and there is alot of competition amongst the simic members to see who can earn a promotion. THIS IS TRIVAZ' CURRENT RANK.
  • Project Leaders- Working directly underneath the project master (in Trivaz' case Deridder) and handling a team of 3d12 scientists and 2 guardians. They are seen as the right hand men of the Project Master and generally are given free reign to continue their sub projects.
  • Project Master- Deridder in the guardian project for example. They oversee the project leaders and often stake the most on a project as it is their position and reputation that will be most harshly affected if they do not find success in their work.

Structure

The Combine are an incredibly 'corporate' faction. With different leaders for each organised area. The heads of the most prevalent areas are: -Deridder Calved, Leader of the Guardian Project: A female Simic Combine Ranger that has used their various genetic changes to give them an edge in combat and regularly joins others in field work. He isn't the brains of the project but he is certainly the leader, and a charismatic one at that. She was formerly a tiefling before embracing the changes of a simic combine member. They deeply desire to build up a 'perfect combine warrior' and notably use field researchers for this practice which has often been criticised as simic researchers are not suited for the adventurers life, though currently certain researchers are doing to justify Deridder's faith.
  • Tarlen D'lane: A Male Half Wood Elf, Half Tiefling Druid. An elderly former wanderer and nomadic member of the five leaves. He has since put his talented druidic skill into deals for farmers, offering plant growth for their failing crops in exchange for space to work on their modified organic items. However, it is a well kept secret in the Combine that D'lane himself was responsible for the crops failing in the first place.
  • Culture

The culture of the Combine varies from section to section though the guardian project is the most impersonal. They regularly take casualties and so, as a result there is a sense of dangerous competition and alliances in the name of progress with each combine member looking to get a unique edge on the others around them, this often leads to regular false alliances, stealing others research and completing dangerous experimentation in less than ideal conditions.
