When a Grotesque wakes from it's long slumber, the unkindness where it has perched for centuries holds a rooftop ceremony. The unkindness is what ones family or clan is called. Those that have become, awakened randomly through time, usually during a storm, astronomical event and even with seemingly no prompt. Simply being awakening amongst the other horrible creatures does not mean one is accepted. To prove they belong an ancient ceremony is held. Candles are light, sage smolders, the devil bones are brought out. Small bone cubes where each side has markings. At first a single devil bone is chosen and rolled. The number will determine the number of devil bones to be rolled next. Luck, and fate play a part in this ceremony. The next roll, with how many devil bones now determined the numbers of coys the new grotesque is set to find out in the city. Perched high as they are the words of the fragiles below are often misheard and adopted into their vocabulary. Coy is how those way up high heard the fragile word for coin. In a large city such as Glenora, coins are hard to come by. At night the new grotesque sets out on its task, its coy hunt. Sticking to the shadows, allies and the darkness, searching desperately for coins lost in fountains, in the corners and dirt of the city. Unkindness: the clan, family a grotesque belongs to. An Unkindness is usually located on the roof tops of religious or important buildings.   Coy hunt: coin hunt one goes on as part of an initiation to their unkindness. Those that fail are found not worthy and cast out.   Coy: fragile misheard term for coin. Grotesques collect them storing them underfoot while they rest in the day.   Cackle fruit: grotesque term for eggs. A popular raw delicacy.   Fragile / fragile: grotesque term for humans. These creatures living in the day down below do not live as long as grotesques and are easily hurt.   Long pig: vampire term for humans.   Devil bones: dice. Made of bone with marking on each side.   Poopid: when something is really dumb.
