Aduvalmer

Aduvalmer is a mineral that I, dare to say, consider one of the best combinations of usefulness and aesthetics of its kind. Its sensitive nature to the arcane is already well known and has been exploited for ages now. But before that, it was used for decoration and very pretty types of it as well. You can still see in some palaces boxes or trinkets adorned all about with ornamentation made out of aduvalmer. Selene Afroudakis, mineralogist of the Imperial Geological Institute in Wasshielerberg

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

Aduvalmer is an alkaline solid crystal with a colour ranging from transparent-white to very light blue. It is not flammable, doesn't dissolve in water and reacts strongly with acids which break its structure. It is not affected by magnets. The most characteristic property is that if the density of arcanum in the air begins to increase, aduvalmer will begin to glow with according intensity.

Geology & Geography

Aduvalmer can be found all throughout the globe, scattered irregularly on all the continents. Large veins are located underground, though small deposits can also be found on the surface, mostly in the more mountainous regions. The biggest source of the mineral that has been unearthed to this date is located in the Vielberze (Wielrud) Mountains, where mining activities have been going on for centuries.

Origin & Source

The veins of the mineral are called "Adverms" and they usually contain from a few kilograms of the raw crystal to even hundreds of tonnes. Aduvalmer quarried out of these veins is already ready to use, the only real refinement done to it being smoothing or grinding.

Life & Expiration

The material is thought to be extremely stable, with no evidence of it losing its ability to sense arcanum even during very long periods of exposure (the longest observation that is still being carried out has lasted over a century).

History & Usage

Everyday use

The most common usage is in weather forecasters of all shapes and sizes, since aduvalmer is the key element that makes the machine work. Besides the mineral is used in detectors of catalyst crystal based weaponry or technology, since they are conductors of arcanum and affect aduvalmer.

Refinement

Aduvalmer taken out straight from the ground is already ready to be used in machinery and it oftentimes is. However sometimes cutting, smoothing or grinding are done to the raw crystals, either for them to fit in a given area or for aesthetical purposes.
