Floatspheres

Floatspheres appear to be small boats attached to a large sack. This sack is filled with hot air from a burning furnace on the main deck of the boat. This allows the vehicle to float into the air, where it can then be directed in various directions by the pilot using a series of paddle wheels and rudders. Floatspheres are not quick, and are no match for the speed of many flying creatures, but they do give the forces of the Iron Legion a form of air superiority. The floatspheres are a new technology, still being tested and as such are very uncommon sights but those who have witnessed them know the terror they can bring as archers and spell casters can rain down death from above. A floatsphere moves slowly, but does give the soldiers inside of it air superiority.   A Broken floatsphere loses altitude quickly, falling at a rate of 60 feet per round.   The typical crew of a floatsphere is one pilot and one stoker who feeds the furnace and handles the controls that keep the floatsphere in the air. The stoker is often a charhide Goblins or other fire-loving humanoid as working the stoker is a very hot job. The floatsphere can carry up to four additional medium-sized creatures, often those with ranged capabilities to rain down terror from above.
