Session One: An Adventure Begins Report

General Summary

A small dungeon complex is known to exist underneath a well somewhere in south-central Aaskrordius. It is rumored to contain powerful artifacts that were stolen from the Pastorian royal family after King Melvianus and Queen Auravel, Ozma's parents, were assassinated. The dungeon was said to be protected by a fierce undead monster called a devourer.
Twenty years ago a map to this well was recovered by the legendary Arch-wizard Wam, who served as an advisor to several Pastorian nobles. The wizard Wam never returned from his mission. Another copy of the map has resurfaced and has gained the interest of several powerful people in Pastoria, most notably King Angelo, the wicked faery Nessali, and the Pirate King Seeban.
This map has unexpectedly fallen into the hands of the wizard, Armitage. Armitage was seeking knowledge of the Devourer for a manuscript he is penning on the monstrous flora and fauna of Pastoria. After narrowly escaping a group of pirates working for King Seeban who were after the map, Armitage decides to post an adverntures for hire advert on the bulletin board outside the Severed Goat Inn, a popular hangout in the port city of Notero.
Four individuals answered the advert: Eralia Vizard (an excitable young Shade elf) and her bodyguard, Erastus Chloros(a Mizbasha who worships Monlo, the little known god of righteous bloodshed) arrived as a pair. There was also Malth Nurn (a construct of old make and model who covers himself in a thin layer of leather for some reason) and Daretti Da Vinky (a goblin artificer wearing far too many belts, even for an artificer), who met while travelling by sea from Verdantport to Notero.
The group decided to begin their journey the next day. They spent the afternoon gathering information from various sources such as the customers at the local Nextquest store and Mr. Lichen, a tour guide and aspiring bartender working for The Angry Cats Inn. While talking to Mr. Lichen, Elaria noticed a goblin watching them. She and Erastus interrogated the Goblin and learned his name was Piltox. He was rude, but they weren't able to discover much information. Daretti attempted to get access to the library at the First Church of the Faemother, but was denied entry because he mentioned he was seeking information about an undead creature. Malth went back to the Severed Goat that night and met a group of "hobbyist" adventurers (Yarna the dwarf, his gnome wife Mara, and their Avian friend Daroak) who were able to provide more information, like that they play cards once a week at "Dude's House."
The next morning the party set forth on their journey and came upon a strange pond. This pond had an odd jelly-like film that covered it and a lily-pad like plant that bore a piece of large red fruit. On alert, Erastus suddenly got the feeling that he was being watched. Curious about the nature of this strange phenomenon, Armitage cast Detect Magic and discovered that the pond was giving off an aura of magic from the school of Necromancy. Using his Divine Sense ability, Erastus was able to discover that there was undead in the pond.
As if on cue, two slime covered ghouls emerged from the pond and the group made quick work of their undead foes. Armitage was able to determine that the pond was some sort of ghoul birthing place and that there were more that were not yet "finished." Using a combination of arcane knowledge and intuition, Daretti concluded that fire would be a good way to get rid of the film and so he and Armitage sent two Fire Bolts at the pond destroying the jelly top-layer and putting an end to whatever strange Necromancy was at work.
