Avian
Avians are bird-like humanoids who are mostly found on the archipelago of Aaskrordius. They were the first mortal settlers of the region and much of their culture has not changed despite the settlement and eventual rule of the Viridian monarchy. The settlers, mostly gnomes who fled the mainland after the Gnome war, left the Avians alone for the most part only interacting for minor trade deals every now and again.
Origin
According to legend, the Avians of Pastoria are the descendants of elementals from another world who sought refuge on Pastoria. At the time Pastoria was still a fledgling realm so Lurline welcomed the company with open arms. Zixi, Lurline's brother and ruler of the domain of what is now Aaskrordius, was displeased with this. Zixi tricked the elementals into freely giving up their immortality by convincing the elementals that the perfect existence was the life of the many birds that lived in the region.Culture
The Avians of Pastoria live mostly in druidic communal farms further inland on the archipelago of Aaskrordius. Each community operates independently of one another and may have subtle cultural differences. In the mountains to the north of the of Aaskrordius there is an Avian fortress that is extremely secretive. The superstitious of Aaskrordius believe that they are ensuring that the dragon that is supposedly underneath an inactive volcano stays asleep.Anatomy
