Elves (overview, pending)

Descended from some of the original sentient beings, and in fact the first humanoids among them, on Parthalan, Elves have become some of the most diverse creatures, in part because their genetics necessitate that they adapt to whatever their surroundings are. This adaptation, when the elf has remained in a location for a long enough time, becomes an evolution in and of itself. This enables the creatures to remain in any area, with every benefit their bodies can pull from it, as they reflect the world around them, as well as the current state of their spirit. Because of this, an elf may start out appearing as one subrace and develop features of another, should they come to occupy a region similar to the other's homeland, however, elves typically remain in a single area for centuries at a time, if not their entire lives. At one point in time, elves occupied every part of Parthalan. This race and its subraces, overall, are relatively ageless, effectively rendering them biologically immortal; there is absolutely no record of an elf dying of old age. While not immune to the effects of viruses and diseases, they naturally retain such a high resistance that there are few that can even begin to affect them, let alone overtake them. Overall, elves range from five to nine feet in height, depending on the subrace that they are apart of, and pure elves typically don't have pupils, though half-elves unfailingly do. Instead, some subraces have segmented eyes, not unlike a dragonfly's in appearance, and it is not wholly uncommon for the colorations to be iridescent, though the exact colors are based on genetics, rather than regional adaptation, as other bodily colorations are. Overall, the shape and proportions of elven eyes are roughly human.
