Firehawk

Thought to be a lesser relative of the dragon, firehawks are large birds capable of breathing fire. While they inspired the myths of the phoenix, firehawks are not actually magical.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Firehawks have a wingspan about the same length as an average human or elf. They usually have black or dark red feathers, with lighter underbellies and golden wingtips. Their beaks are dark orange but often scorched black from flame.

Ecology and Habitats

Especially when young, firehawks live in dry, mountainous areas where there is little danger of setting the place on fire. Older firehawks with more control over their ability spend more time in forests and plains.

Feathers

Gold-tipped firehawk feathers are a luxury item, often sold for cloaks and garments. Some believe it is a good-luck charm, or will help them with the practice of magic, Unfortunately, most firehawk feathers are sourced from illegally hunted hawks.
