Wairua's Hut

This home means so much to Wairua. When she was just 100 years old, her family moved in, after going bankrupt in Likhulu. She then started a family and grew old in that home. When she met Andromeda in Likhulu, she knew that they would get along. Andromeda, after having to go into hiding, took up residence in Wairua's hut. Wairua is now even more attached to this hut. To outside eyes, this hut is nothing more than a pile of stone and hay. But Wairua has so many good, bad, happy, sad, memories behind those walls. And now Andromeda must call this same hut her home too.

Purpose / Function

Wairua, an elderly Malmur, lives there. She lives at the very bottom of the wealth spectrum. The hut mainly hides Andromeda from Malmurian authorities.

Design

The main room is stone floor. The walls are made of stone as well. The ceiling opens up briefly, making the ceiling seem taller. The ceiling is made up of hay binded together. The whole of the front room is rectangle and about the size of two taxis put together. The walls are about 6 feet tall. Straight ahead from the main entrance is a door to the back room, considered to be the "bedroom". In there it is the same length of the main room, and rectangle. The floor drops about 1 hour. So watch your step walking into this room.

Entries

There are two doors. One door, which is the main door, is only 5'7 and humans would have to bend down if necessary. It is wooden, with cross pieces of metal to reinforce it. The second door is the same as the front door, the only difference is that it has no metal cross. There are 3 windows in the whole hut. Two on opposite sides of the main room. And one right in the middle of the back wall in the "bedroom", they all have wooden shutters that stay closed a lot, since in the Yintlangos there are many Stone Storms. The windows are 1 foot by 1 foot, the glass is very strong, to withstand Stone Storms.

Sensory & Appearance

When you enter the hut, you smell a rough smell of raindrops. But no raindrops can be found. In fact, it doesn't even rain in Paparanga Kohatu. Raindrops is the closest thing to compare this smell too. Despite it being extremely freezing all the time of P.K., Wairua's hut is quite warm. She always as the fireplace going. It is dim, with only a few little lanterns on the main room walls. In the back room, the room as only one lantern, which doesn't light the room well. You can hear the fire crackling and the constant wind howling against the walls of the house. But, most of the time, you will hear quiet conversation of Wairua's family members.

Denizens

The occasional rat with pop in and out, but not your average rat, is it the size of a house cat, but they are harmless, just annoying and can spook you. But they don't stay for long.

Contents & Furnishings

In the main room, there is a fireplace to the right of the bedroom door, with a dusty rug in front. to the far right of the fireplace is an old rocking chair. On the right wall, beside the front door, against the wall, is a shelf. On it are many books, written strictly in Korero. But they are pretty basic books. On the left side of the room, is a type of furnace that is made out of stone. You can put things inside and smelt them. Malmurs eat rocks, so they smelt them and shape them to be eaten better. In the bedroom, there are two cots on either side of the room. In the middle of them is a small table with a lantern burning. this hut doesn't have much things inside.

Valuables

Wairua likes to joke that there is hidden treasure buried under the hut, but no one knows for sure.

Hazards & Traps

There are no traps.

Special Properties

There is a well leading right to the house, but the water is not filtered. It comes in through a lever that you have to pull up and down and the water comes out. It is right next to the stone stove, to the left. A small porcelain pot stays under it at all times. The room doesn't have oxygen, so if you are human, and your not from Mars, then you would need some kind of mask to live inside.

Alterations

Nothing has changed to it. Wairua is way too poor to even think about alterations. She only cares about protecting Andromeda.

Architecture

It is a stone hut. It has round stone walls. The roof is made of hay and wheat. The roof is tied together by binding rope. The hut has 2 rooms. The main room where the fireplace is and where most of Wairua's family meets. And the back room, where the people in the home sleep. The beds are cots, made out of wire and metal beams. The bedding is just hay. It isn't built for comfort, and the Malmurs don't really care, since they don't have fleshy bodies.

History

It was built by past Malmurs. The ancestor Malmurs created these homes so that they, the poorest of the world, would live and stay. They eventually became very popular among poor Malmurs. Almost every single Malmur in the Yintlangos use this type of home, only a few refer back to primitive living spaces, that which include underground burrows.
