The Lightlean Theocracy

The Lightlean Theocracy

The Lightlean Theocracy once encompassed the entirety of the Lightle Archipelago. The forest and marsh that makes up the majority of Lightle as it is today is home to a sparse population of zealous individuals. The country is the centre of the Lightlean religion and is home to many universities that preach its knowledge and doctirine. Here the practice of magic and seeking of arcane knowledge is encouraged not only for power, but as a means of cleansing the soul.

Politics

Politics in Lightle is simple. The country is organised by The Lightlean Church. The Lightlean Church holds a Council of the Illuminated in the University Cathedral of Oxlight where matters are discussed and decided on. The Illuminated are the Priest-Rectors of the Universities of Lightle.

Culture

The Lightlean people consider themselves a very Meritocratic society, believing that those who have been educated to the highest quality, and have the deepest levels of knowledge are those best suited to positions of power and rule. This leads Lightleans to prize people furthering their education and knowledge.

Some Lightleans decide to become masters of specific niches, others look to have an extremely broad range of topics under their belt, neither is prized more than the other. To Lightleans the seeking and acquisition of knowledge is the most virutous trait.

In times of old this lead to an oligarchical structure wherein elite university rectors would carefully manage who could and could not enter the unviersities, leading to an ever widening class divide. It was only after the rebellion and seperation of Glomhand that the Lightleans were able to reform the system so that admissions were out of the control of such a small group of people.

Whilst some remnants of the oligarchical still remain the Lightleans pride themselves on being able to work hard to better their position within society.

Religion

The Lightlean religion worships the "Light of Knowledge" which is often given many different names and different anthropomorphisms. The doctirines remain the same throughout, however, that the god of knowledge is omniscient and rewards those who seek knowledge for the more knowledge one has, the closer to omniscient and therefore the closer to god.

Lightlean sermons tend to be lectures given by priests who study at the universities on various topics so that the general populace might learn something new each time. Education, is provided for by the church and is mandatory and lifelong.
