The Bogradakhian Khaganate

The Bogradakhian Khaganate

The great plains of Bogdrakhia are home to the great plains wyrms. The rolling fields are home to many large game beasts and typically nomadic peoples will move around gathering at times around cities which can stretch for miles beyond their natural borders when the people gather.

Bogradakhia is named for the Giant Bronze Wyrm that lay guardian over a great horde of treasures. It is thought that the Khotun of the tribes charmed the wyrm into taking a human form. She lay with the wyrm and eventually gave birth to six hearty babes. The six babes took up arms, leading the people in a war against the wyrms. The wyrms were pushed to near extinction and their powers reduced such that they became little more than giant lizards, cursed to never fly again.

Politics

Bogradakhian politics is relatively simple, within the nomadic groups. A family head will lead the greater clan, making decisions regarding their pathing and journey, as well as handling diplomatic affairs between various clans.

Clans tend to roam around the same provincial areas, and each clan will have representatives in the city capital of each province. These representatives will see to Bogradakhian affairs at a provincial level. The most powerful clan's representative becomes the baron of the region, and will act as a counsellor to the Khotun.

The Khotun (Khan when the title holder is male) is the leader of Bogradakhia, and is the closest living member to the six children of Bogradakhia. The Khotun does not have absolute power over the disparate clans, but she does have chief diplomatic responsibility and during times of war will have overall say on the doings of the military.

The current Khotun is Nerghui Hianag di Bogradakhia, she claims ancestry to Indrenth the second son.

The Baronies

The four baronies of Bograkhia are:
  • The Barony of Bayan Ovi - Baron Baidar of Clan Eizi
  • The Barony of Darkhan - Baroness Nomolun of Clan Saevroan
  • The Barony of Luushaat - Baron Ajir of Clan Ullyn
  • The Barony of Khayandakh - Baron Jirandai of Clan Zidom

Culture

Bogradakhian culture centres around moving with the beasts of the land. Hunters and foragers by nature the clans are nomadic. They have territories which tend to belong to them and do not often trespass into the lands of other clans. Individual prowess is prized amongst Bogradakhians and measured in innumerate different ways.

Equastrianism is considered to be the highest form of athleticism, and a Bogradakhian is never far from their mount. Each clan will have its own customs and festivals, but one thing that is shared amongst all Bogradakhian's is the worship of "Great Dragons" It is claimed by all the great families in each clan that they descend from the true dragons, the strong and mighty before they were wiped out from the land.

Bogradakhian's tend to centre a lot fo their tradiitons around hunting the great beasts of the plains and as such will hold competitions in archery, and mounted spearmanship. They will lead hunts where they seek not only to capture food but hunt the largest creature they can find.

Bogradakhian culture is egalitarian in terms of women's and men's rights. Men and women are as likely to hold positions of power as each other. Religious figures are held in prominence but do not hold power beyond that of an advisor.

Bogradakhians, whilst mostly human, have attracted many other species to their way of life. The Bogradakhians do not consider themselves pure of species, with most everyone considering themselves Bogradakhians first. Usually this means that they consider themselves to have a notbale amount draconic lineage, enough to differentiate them from others of their parent species.

Religion

The religion of Bogradakhia is an animist form of Dragon worship. With true dragons lost to the plains the spirits of the great dracons, including Bogradakhia, are venerated. It is said that the Khotun posesses the spirit of Bogradakhia as the closest living relative to the dragon.

Sacrifices are given to the spirits of the dragons, often in the form of a sacrifical hunt so that the spirit of the dragon may feast on the soul of the beast. Each clan will often have its own dragon spirit that they venerate and there are no centralised tenets of the relegion
