Kingdom of Elyth

The Kingdom of Elyth

Elyth, the land of wild and dark magic is a realm considered to be in perpetual twilight. A haze blots the sun from the sky, leaving it weaker the closer to the centre of the land that one travels. Hot weather and an abundance of trees lends itself to the mystical rumours that surround the very kingdom in its entirety.

There are a stretch of wetlands that spans diagonally across the south from west to east wherein some of the most diverse forms of animal and botanical life can be found in all of Pania. The kingdom itself considers itself to be the great protecter of the east from the advancesof Curpeakia.

Politics

The Kingdom of Elyth is an semi-constitutional monarchy. The Monarch, King Llaullin of the Great House T'sylan, holds veto power over all laws and decisions made concerning the matters of state. The parliament of nobles, which is made up of nobility that rank above baron, provide oversight to the lower house. The lower parliament, also known as the 'Rivvan Blada' is responsible for all domestic issues concerning the rights and obligations of the commonfolk.

The Parliament of Nobles

The pariliament is open to all nobles of rank baron or above. The typical breakdown is that an earl will hold an earldom, whilst a baron will manage regions outside of the earldom capital.

There are currently 25 members of the Parliament, with 17 representing the nobility with landed holdings, and 8 representing the landed clergy, who hold domain over certain temples and monastaries both within and outwith noble domains.

Culture

Elyth culture is centred around the ideals of self control. The kingdom is one that forbids the embibement of alcohol or any mind-altering concoctions, with the exception of those who's use is not primarily recreational. This means that the kingdom's people are known for being firm and chaste. Whilst not necessarily overtly spiritual or religious the people of Elyth pride themselves on restraint in all things.

Elyth craftsment are not considered masters in their craft until they have shown dedication through patience and learning. One's apprenticeship is considered complete once the master has deemed you their superior. This approach to learning through discipline, mastery, and acknowledgement is carried throughout all of Elyth.

Elythians do not brag or boast, such traits are for those who lack discipline. The Elythians will make claims and provide evidence or witness. Storytellers to not embolden tales with feats of exceptional talent earned at the hand of magic or divine intervention, instead the Elythian storytellers will spin moral tales on the virtue of dedication and practice.

Festivites usually centre around structured dancing and competitions between masters of their crafts. The arts are widely respected, but any vocation which requires time to master is given a pride of place during festivals. Innovators, creators, and maestros will descend upon the towns and cities ready to show their most complicated, masterfully wrought, showcases of talent and skill.

The people of Elyth are mostly elven. The elves tend lighter skin and their northern cousins. Without direct access to the sun these elves, known as Dark Elves for the darkness in which they dwell, mutated to better take advantage of the lack of light that they are subject to.

The elves are not the only people of Elyth, however, and many other species travel through and eventually come to settle into an Elythian way of life. There is a thriving population of Draconians that have migrated from neighbouring Newmia into Elyth. The overlap between the Elythian and Newmian cultures providing strong relations between the two states.

Religion

The Elythian religion does not worship any gods, in fact, the Elythian religion of Duranfeh (or conviction) is about achieving perfection in onesself as the closest act to godliness one can achieve. Indeed every temple in Elyth is named after some negative trait or burden of mortal life to be overcome in the seeking of perfection.

Priests in Elyth do not preach gospel on the will of gods, but provide lectures on self improvement and private sessions where practitioners can seek an outside source to help them to overcome their flaws in private, as any exhibition of a flaw in public is considered the gravest sin, not only in religion but society too.
