Campaign Book Part 2 - Lore
CHAPTER 7: THE AGE OF ASCENDANCE
The Sapphire Dominion, 200 Years After Arrival
Two centuries after humanity’s arrival in the Ultron System, the Sapphires had become more than a royal family—they had become a symbol. Their influence seeped into every settlement, mining colony, research outpost, and restored ecosystem across the system. Under their leadership, the Broken Planet—once a hostile wasteland—was reborn into a thriving cradle of life.
Across the jagged continents, crystalline forests shimmered in the twilight. Terraforming arrays hummed quietly beneath turquoise skies. Rivers once choked with metallic dust now ran clear enough to see the black-silver mineral grains glittering at their depths.
The planet was no longer “Broken.”It was a testament to everything humanity could become. And at its heart stood King Atticus Sapphire.
Atticus was a quiet, deliberate ruler—known less for grand speeches and more for his unwavering presence. He balanced firmness with compassion and was beloved for his devotion to the people. With him stood the Guard Council, six captains who commanded the world’s military forces and served as the king’s closest advisors.
Their children—raised alongside Atticus’s only son, Prince Laertes—formed a tight-knit circle known across the planet as the Children of the Guard. They trained together, studied together, got into trouble together. They were inseparable, a future generation forged in camaraderie rather than politics.
For a brief moment, it seemed the Sapphires had secured a golden age. But the Council of Systems saw something else: A rising civilization that threatened to eclipse their own power.
Whispers of unease shifted into strategy. And strategy darkened into conspiracy.
CHAPTER 8: THE DAY OF ASH
The Council’s Betrayal
It began on an ordinary day.
Prince Laertes was twelve years old—on the verge of adolescence, more interested in sparring drills and flight simulators than royal obligations. The Children of the Guard were with him, spending the morning in the palace citadel overlooking the gleaming cities below.
Then the alarms screamed.
In the sky above, the Council’s primary war armada tore out of hyperspace, their formation a serrated arc of silver and gold. There had been no warning. No negotiations. No demands. Just fire.
The Council claimed later it was a solar flare. But the survivors remembered the precision of the bombardment.
Solar storms do not choose targets.
The Royal Guard scrambled the planet’s defenses, but the ambush had been engineered too perfectly. Energy relays collapsed. Orbital stations flickered out. The first barrage fell like a rain of molten metal.
In the midst of the chaos, King Atticus Sapphire rallied the last battalions of the Guard. They formed a defensive line at the palace gate—a hopeless stand, but a necessary one.
Then the admiral of the Council’s fleet gave his infamous command:
> “Cease fire. The king will kneel.”
Atticus stepped forward through the smoke, armor cracked and burning, blood streaking his face. The admiral demanded surrender. Atticus refused.
His final words were recorded in a half-melted comm log:
> “A king bends only to protect his people.
You offer no protection—only fear.”
The admiral hesitated, then issued the order.
A single missile struck.
It vaporized Atticus and the Guard in an instant.
The Council later executed the admiral, claiming “procedural misconduct.”
But the truth was simpler:
They needed someone to blame—
and they needed at least one Sapphire alive.
CHAPTER 9: THE EXODUS OF THE FEW
Flight of the Children of the Guard
The palace fell. The cities fell. The world burned.
The Children of the Guard watched as their parents became the last defenders of their home—one by one cut down under the onslaught. Prince Laertes was dragged to the final evacuation vessel by Captain Theron’s son, who shouted over the alarms:
> “If you stay, the line breaks. If you live—our people live.”
The vessel lifted off moments before the planet was scoured by orbital fire.
A half-dozen refugee ships escaped—no more. Tens of millions perished.
The Council claimed a solar catastrophe. They spread propaganda across the Ultron System, insisting that strange radiation had damaged survivors’ memories—explaining away the consistent accounts of “a deliberate attack.”
But the refugees knew the truth. They had watched the sky burn. Their species, once respected, became pitied, distrusted, and displaced.
Homeless across a thousand ports, humanity became a wandering species. The Sapphire Wastelanders, named for the world they had lost.
And in that exile, a prince grew older. And colder.
CHAPTER 10: THE PRINCE’S WAR
The First Sapphire Rebellion
By the age of twenty-seven, Prince Laertes Sapphire had hardened into a man forged by loss. The Children of the Guard—now skilled warriors and leaders in their own right—stood beside him. Together they rallied scattered refugees, mercenaries, sympathetic worlds, and forgotten outposts.
They built a new army.
For the first time in centuries, a royal house led a rebellion against the Council. It was a war of necessity, fueled by grief, righteousness, and desperation.
And amid the fire of that war, Laertes found love.
She was a refugee like him—brilliant, defiant, and unbroken by the Council’s lies. Her presence softened him, grounded him. For a brief time, the prince believed redemption was possible.
But war does not reward hope. The rebellion lasted two years. Two brutal years.
The Council crushed his fleets. His armies fell. His allies scattered.
In the final battle, the prince was captured—paraded through the capital streets as a symbol of the Council’s supremacy. His followers were slaughtered or imprisoned. The Children of the Guard barely escaped with their lives.
Humiliated, broken, and drowning in guilt over those he had led to death, Laertes vanished into the outer systems. No one saw him again.
But the Children of the Guard never stopped searching.
CHAPTER 11: THE HIDDEN TRUTH
The Queen’s Death, Revealed
For five years, the remaining Children of the Guard chased shadows, leads, and forgotten data archives—trying to understand the deeper truth behind their dynasty’s fall.
The breakthrough came from a derelict research station orbiting a dead star. There they discovered files that rewrote history. The creature that had supposedly killed Queen Selene Sapphire decades earlier… never existed.
The Council had launched a network of holographic satellites to project the image of a colossal extraterrestrial beast. It was a trap meant to lure the Sapphire Royal Fleet away from the Broken Planet.
When the fleet arrived, the Council ambushed it. The queen refused to surrender. And so the council executed everyone and seized her fleet, but her fleet was not just any armada.
It was the Arc Fleet—the same miraculous black–silver vessels that had carried humanity from dying Earth into their new beginning. Each ship was built with bloodline-locked systems. Only a Sapphire could fully activate or command them.
When Selene died, a failsafe triggered. Every vessel sealed itself. Any forced entry attempt would trigger a catastrophic chain-reaction—one powerful enough to annihilate planets for decades with radioactive poisoning.
For over 20 years, the Council kept the Arc Fleet in cold storage, feared, untouched, and illegal even to study.
And now the Children of the Guard understood:
The Council had planned the Sapphires’ extinction for generations.
CHAPTER 12: THE SPARK OF RECLAMATION
The Plan to Awaken the Arc Fleet
The Children of the Guard had their answer. The path forward was dangerous—but clear.
To end the Council’s lies. To avenge their world.
To reclaim their destiny. They needed the prince.
Only Laertes Sapphire could unlock the Arc Fleet. And somewhere in the galaxy, he was still alive.
Their plan formed in whispered meetings aboard forgotten vessels:
Find Laertes. Infiltrate Angkarser. Access the sealed docks. Awaken the fleet. Launch a second revolution.
A war not for vengeance alone—but for truth, restoration, and justice.
For the first time in decades, hope ignited. And thus began the next era of the saga:
The Reclamation Wars
Where old legacies awaken, lost heirs return, and a single choice may reshape the fate of the entire Ultron System.
