Border Rangers

Privatized paramilitary police for contract hires.
The Border Rangers were originally a private policing and security sector contracted by the Meridian United Inlander Nations (MUIN) mostly for maintaining border security between the Inlander Nations and Outlander territories/colonies. The Rangers had mostly functioned as Embassies for both Outlander and Inlander people, maintaining a somewhat neutral political standing, and receiving funding from both sides, despite Inlanders funding more. Thus, historically, the Rangers had favored the Inlander Nations mostly, skewing their roles towards Inlander Homeland Security.
The main operation bases to maintain optimal (and somewhat neutral) functions are the Outposts. These outposts are originally built in various surface locations, for Outlander communication with Inland access (tunnels, elevators, or various Inlander-built travel vehicles and technology).
Additionally, the outposts also serve as weather-watching and hazard-watching (such as forest fires) stations.
However, with the onset of automation and drone technology developed by the Inlanders, various nations have felt the use of Ranger personnel in physical outpost locations was unnecessary. Thus, Inlanders funders have reduced funding for the Rangers, leading to a complete crash in their stock and market prices. Moreover, due to the reduced budgeting, Ranger personnel employee numbers have been cut. This has led to the MUIN contracting drone-based paramilitary companies for maintaining border safety, Inlander and Outlander relations, and weather/hazard watching.
With the original company owning the Ranger (Delta Corp.) declaring bankruptcy, this allowed Maze Townsend to use his inheritance (and Syncope's without her knowledge) to purchase all assets of the company. This enables Maze to rebrand the company as Catalyst Ltd. and subsequently employs his exiled peers and friends as part of Ranger Team Catalyst.
To note: Maze and peers had been exiled from Zion officially, however, due to the nature of neutrality the rangers and their properties maintain, it still enables them to travel to the Zion Outpost Prometheus and be contracted for Zion-based jobs (although this is seldom, due to the hostile relationship between Maze and the leader of Zion, General Holmes).
