Pandorca

infusions: Panda, Orca   the workhorse of the Barren Isles, these large black-and-white combinations of panda and orca come in many different breeds, but are universally large, strong and amphibious.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Pandorca in fact exist along a smooth continuum: some are virtually smooth-skinned pandas, whilst others are orcas with small front paws. however, as a highly domesticated species they tend to be bred, born and raised in carefully-controlled environments to ensure they strike the right balance for the desired role.   all have the following traits:
  • black-and-white, smooth, rubbery skin
  • at least a pair of front paws, often back paws too
  • at least a reduced and vestigial fluke
  • large - at least the size of a man, some up to 5-6 metres long and weighing in at several tonnes.

Ecology and Habitats

native to the Barren Isles, the Pandorca only arose after the Greening of the Isles introduced the bamboo and panda infusions that were needed for their existence.

Dietary Needs and Habits

able to survive on a diet of bamboo or fish, Pandorca are ideally adapted to life in the Barren Isles.

Additional Information

Domestication

Notable breed-types:
  • packbeasts: around the size of a horse, though some much larger and a few smaller. used to carry or pull loads. strong legs and reduced tails. used on larger islands.
  • towbeasts: the oceanic equivalent of packbeasts, destined to pull ships/bamboo-pole bundles and work underwater. reduced legs and well-developed tails.
  • shorebeasts: a mixture of packbeasts and towbeasts, able to exert their strength well in water or on land and as such are very versatile on smaller islands. well-developed legs and tails, making them slow in water and unwieldy on land.
  • meat animals: smaller and more docile, these can have various land/sea balances depending on the environment they will be grazing in.
  • Hunters: Pandorca with more predator in them, with sharp teeth and sleek bodies. deadly both on land and in water
  • warbeasts: larger versions of Hunters, used for military purposes.
