Draconic History

While the world was designed, operating, and originally overlooked by the gods, they never walked the lands. Instead, they sat comfortably in their plane of existence, managing from a distance. And when you're a god, and rule a peaceful world, what's a little bit of chaos to shake things up, and garner some more devotion? So when the dragons arose from their slumbers and traversed the planes, most gods looked on in intrigue, rather than outrage, as the regions of Palmara fought for their place.   These dragons each ruled a portion of the planes and the world for a time, and each had their own legacy.

Mulcog, Harbinger of Flame

Fierce and impulsive, Mulcog ruled over the scorching deserts and volcanic regions. Many believe the origin of flame came from him, as he scorched his plane into submission and burned away life on the material plane, leaving deserts and volcanic regions in his wake. His anger brings volcanic eruptions and storms, tearing about the land. To ensure the material world wasn't consumed in his outbursts, his compatriots forced him to spend most of his time in his home den in the Plane of Fire, bathing in the massive calderas and magma lakes.

Azura, Auril, Aduan, Tempest Guardians

Out of all the ancient drakes, the Tempest Guardians are the only ones who didn't partake in the massacres and creation of the dragon kingdom. Under their watch, sailors and island dwellers lived without fear of the other drakes' influences. Whether it is pity, curiosity, or spite of the other drakes, is unknown, as the three dragon turtles never utter a word, and have telepathic communications either. Instead, their presence and demeanor are their methods of communication, where instead of words, sheer presence and motion convey their understanding and requests.   The Guardians are the focus of the Tempest religion, whose base originates in the island cities of Decanter. The dragon turtles offer their protection to these island cities, keeping the islands' location magically obscured with storm clouds. All sailors that seek the island always seem to be turned away, and forget their goal of discovery. Only those selected by the Guardians may approach.   Not much is known about their domain, as the Guardians reside deep in the belly of the ocean. If a Plane of Water exists, it remains undiscovered.

Rotosh, The Warden

Life flourishes under Rotosh's watch, as she prides herself on the stability of her ecosystems. So when mankind started beseeching her creations, she lashed out in retribution. Usually, she is wise and enigmatic, but in war, she is lethal and impulsive. With the command of nature, the woodlands of the world became deadly, as the animals that called them home were imbued with her rage, becoming monstrosities that tore humanity apart. The Warden helms the Fey Realm, with her residence deep in the burrows of the plane, the masses of the jungle protecting her domain.

Takata, The Scourge of the Shadows

Evil, conniving, and malevolent, Takata simply wanted to push humanity to its brink for the fun of it. Ruling the Shadowfell, he brought demons and damnation in his wake. He pridefully watched his minions tear humanity apart under nightfall, as he ruled the marshlands of the regions. His natural domain resides deep in the Shadowfell, in a chasm of magical darkness.

Aurumis, The Illustrious

While humanity thrives in the light, they also bring a dark taint to it. Smog, smoke, and pollution in general, all faded the light. Aurumis didn't wish for the annihilation of humanity but wanted to teach them a lesson. He kept himself distant from the majority of the war, keeping to the mining cities in the mountains and disrupting trade between the passes. His domain resides beyond the peaks of the Spine of the World, in the Celestial Plane. He does not rule the plane, but is a force that is understood, and controlled.

Narvuldres, The Matron of Blizzards

Unlike her counterparts, Narvuldres is feral, attacking anything and everything, including the other dragons. The icy winds that follow her leave a tundra in her wake, and she regularly hunts the beasts and person that resides on the icecaps and the regions. During winters, she hunts the regional areas on occasion, simply looking for her next meal. Her domain resides on the Plane of Ice, and she slumbers deep in glaciers during the summers.

The Outcome

With all their glory, power, and hunger, these drakes ruled the regions of Palmara for years. They kept humanity in check, torching towns and claiming treasures for their respective hoards. The one thing they didn't account for was humanity's ability to persist. Humanity built their contraptions and organized their plans deep underground, out of the prying eyes of the Dragons. It took careful preparation and execution to ensure a future, but with stockpiled Balista, godly assistance, and powerful mages, one by one, the Dragons were driven back to their domains, where they continue to reside. Remanents of these fights and scars of the war can be found across Palmara still, such as the Obsidian mines of Sinta, the Stockpile in Tolu, and the still-standing city of Decanter.   Mages and agents of chaos still seek these magnificent beasts, seeking either their guidance or their powers.
