The Playhouse

The playhouse is a tale designed to scare children into obedience. The playhouse was a place where children who had done terrible things were sent to 'play' but also to be punished and disciplined. The playhouse tale worked and scared many children into obedience. Parents would use a small little phrase to warn their children of the playhouse. The phrase went 'a child who should disobey will be sent to the house of play.' There is no evidence of this playhouse mentioned.

Summary

The playhouse was a story about a playhouse to which children were sent for being disobedient or committing a crime. The playhouse disciplined children, and also allowed the children to 'play.' The tale was used to scare children who had done wrong things into obedience. The playhouse is known by a simple but ominous phrase 'a child who should disobey will be sent to the house of play.'

Historical Basis

Though many believe it was a myth, there was an old house where children went to play and learn things. Rumors spread about the place, and eventually people adopted it as a tale to scare children.

Spread

The tale is known in many countries, but some countries have twisted a little bit, but the tale of the playhouse, no matter what version of it, still has the same theme. Naughty children will be punished.

Variations & Mutation

In Rhymenia, the tale slowly changed to a Rhymenian version. Instead of the playhouse being a place of play and discipline, it was a place where children were sent to work day and night. At least, that is what the Rhymenians thought it was.

Cultural Reception

Rhymenian culture believes it is a good tale for children to know. They believe it teaches children to obey their parents and avoid the consequences. In Glorinian culture, they interpret it as a scary place.

In Literature

There have been many poems and stories of this tale that if I were to write all of the different stories and poems about it, it could be an entirely seperate universe on its own.

In Art

There have been paintings of the playhouse itself. Some paintings depict it as a cheerful and bright place, while others depict it as a place of suffering and horror.
