Mastadin (mast-uh-dinn)

The Mastadin is a superstitious event in which (mostly) farmers participate. Painted sticks are thrown into the air, and only one of them is painted red. Whoever catches the red stick supposedly earns good luck and a bountiful harvest for the rest of the year.

History

The history of this event is unknown.

Execution

The festival usually starts around 8 or 9 in the morning, and all the farmers from the different villages will come to the event. The host will toss several painted sticks into the air, and one of them is painted red. Whoever catches the red stick will supposedly have a bountiful harvest for the rest of the year.

Components and tools

Before the event, long and straight sticks are snapped off of trees, and then painted each a different color. One of these sticks is painted red.

Participants

The participants consist of almost all farmers coming from different villages scattered across Glorina. The event is hosted by the governor or mayor.

Observance

The festival has no assigned date of when it should began. The festival begins when the harvest begans, when all the wheat and crops just began to sprout.
