Bathomania (Lamo's Disorder)

Bathomania is a disorder where the patient will feel an obsessive urge to go to deeper places. While this usually refers to deep water, subjects have been known to also decent into caves, canyons or even basements. Onset is believed to occur spontaneously and no correlation has been found between religion, culture or geographic location.

Psychopathology

While bathomania refers to a general pattern of behaviour, which results in individuals continuously trying to find deeper places, three behavioural patterns are considered to be self-contained within the framework of bathomania

Bathotolis

Subjects describe that they are being summoned or commanded to reach deeper lying regions. People who suffer from Bathotolis, enter a spontaneous dreamlike state, although being awake. Additionaly a commonality among individuals who show this behaviorism, typically report suffering from insomnia or having faced long term sleep deprivation.
As such sleep therapy has been recommended and has found great success as a treatment.

Bathonanki

This is the best known type. In these cases subjects will feel a need to dive or crawl deeper. In olden days this was often call Drowner's or Dropper's disease, because people have been seen to throw themselves of rocks or keep swimming until they drowned. In recent times, individuals in a state of Bathonanki will gladly use devices and tools that will increase their chance of survival. It is believed, this behaviour is likely not driven by a want for self destruction or death. While no permanent treatment is available, therapy involving pressure chambers or weighted blankets has shown to help patients cope with their illness

Bathorgia

Bathorgia is the most violent of form. The state is typified by the act of trying to pull others along. The most famous case is that of the Nostran Captain Larno Dusdeque, who intentionally made his ship take on water in the hopes of sinking it with everyone aboard.
