The heir to a minor land-holding aristocratic family in Bavaria, Dietrich gained an interest in the rapidly developing industrial technology of his youth. Graduating from university with a degree in business, he invested his fortune in the growing Ruhr area during the industrial boom and grew incredibly wealthy. No longer wanting for anything, he could devote his time and resources to passion projects in chemistry and metallurgy.
His considerable wealth, aristocratic allies and analytical mind caught the attention of prominent Tremere elder Karl von Bamberg. Worming his way into his circle of aristocratic allies, he promised to show Dietrich an entirely new world of study. And so the industrial tycoon was brought under the wing of Clan Tremere.
However, Dietrich did not take as much of an interest into the mystical arts as von Bamberg had hoped. He spent his days of undeath very similarly to how he did in life: Consorting with high society, which in his new vampire society meant clan Ventrue. His study of disciplines was mostly directed into Dominate, a traditionally Ventrue pursuit. In fact, he fits in so well with the Ventrue stereotype that many believe him to be one himself upon first meeting.
It was this close relationship with the Ventrue along with the current Regent's lack of interest in politics that propelled him to his current position as Tremere primogen. In these nights, with the growing tensions in the worlds of both Kindred and Kine, he has allied with fellow socialite Katarina Engel and their man-on-the-ground Josef Beckmann to preserve his position and, if possible, take advantage of the turmoil to andvance...

Downtime #10
The battle lines are being drawn, and they roughly correspond to clan allegiance. As clan Tremere has mostly avoided the population losses of the other clans over the past year, it now finds itself as the kingmaker in the conflict - with Dietrich, their primogen, as one of the primaryu voices.
While he would personally prefer a Ventrue prince, he must consider what is better for the city and his clan in the long term. Which might make the Toreador pretender a better option, depending on her plans for the city. Unfortunately, Dietrich is woefully under-informed about those plans and the Tremere's part in them. Therefore, he is directing his intelligence network's efforts in aquiring accurate, detailed information so as to make a more informed decision for the future.
Since this would mean having a foot in both boats, it is vital that other Kindred in the city do not aquire knowledge of this effort - especially his traditional allies, the Ventrue. That means a tightening of information security security on both the personal and operational level.

The Kindred of Cologne can fel the tension in the air. The Prince's blatant distrust of the Toreador and his increasingly dictatorial leadership following the Nosferatu containment is worrying to Deitrich - It's only a matter of time before his connections to Katarina make him his next target of his paranoia in spite of their close relationship so far.
Dietrich can see the way the wind is blowing. To ensure the security of his position, he is strengthening his ties to prominent vampires in clan Ventrue and subtly weakening their loyalty to the Prince. Should Günter lose the power struggle, he will gain significant sway over the clan in the aftermath. If he wins, they will help keep him in his good graces by making him too influential to remove without alienating his other supporters.
Of course, he must not ignore the possibility that others could be plotting against him in return - Moser being the most prominent example of this, having made an attempt on his life before his fall. Information is king, and with his encrypted telecommunication devices his agents are far less likely to be compromised when making reports. Thus he has begun covertly planting "observation ghouls" in strategic locations around the city, especially in his domain, to keep track of the movements of notable individuals. Not only will this help keep him informed of any unusual activity, but the information gained could be useful in negotiations.

While the assassination attempt on the train was doomed to fail, Dietrich is deeply concerned about the implications. He is thus diverting some of his resources and business connections to investigate any leads to the mastermind, such as the assassin's weapon.
The fact that this no-name vampire got so close to him is also a sign that he may have been incorrect to neglect his study of vampiric Disciplines. He has focused some of his studies into Auspex, to better guard against any further attempts of that nature.

Dietrich's primary focus as of late is the internal investigation into the activities of the Sheriff and Regent, the latter in particular. He has been making use of his connections as Primogen to discreetly enlist the support of other clans within the Camarilla such as the Ventrue and Nosferatu.
Some have noted a more stern and aggressive approach taken by Dietrich in these investigations when softer words fail.

There might be a war going on, but things are mostly business as usual with Dietrich - His main focus is maintaining control of his assets and position. He's maintaining his policy of keeping the Tremere behind the front lines. After all, you don't send scientists to the front lines.

Having accomplished most of his short-term objectives, Dietrich has beeen somewhat passive lately in order to avoid putting himself in the firing line. Now that he has an inside man in the military, he's continuing to strengthen his business' ties to them - His project is soon going to enter prototyping, and with the current world situation they seem to be the easiest way to recoup the monetary investment.

Dietrich continues his work on encrypted communications technology. Realizing that his foray into Anarch territory might have brought some unwanted attention, he's investing in some improved warning systems for his domain and Chantry office. As any true gentleman does, he is constantly working on improving his bearing and skills, making sure to never miss any important details that could be taken advantage of.

Dietrich spends this time shifting some of his assets into war-critical industries such as steel and chemical industries in anticipation of the outbreak of war, and making contacts within the military. He will also use his position as Primogen to investigate the possibility of a rogue Tremere being responsible for the incident involving the Senechal. The Sheriff's movements are of particular interest, but he is careful not to betray his suspicions.
As a personal project, he has been working on technology facilitating long-distance encrypted messages via wireless, hoping to establish a hidden means of communication, possibly drawing inspiration from the new "radio" technology.
