Nin, the Pain Artist
As a vedalken, Nin approaches all aspects of her life with a cold, calculative rationale. Line many vedalken, she prioritizes the search for knowledge, treating the act of learning as a sacred one, and the greatest gift given to intelligence races. Many find it unusual, than, that Nin's profession of choice is that of a torturer and interrogator.
Pathway to Self-Knowledge Nin's path in life was not forced on her, though she does not inherently enjoy her work. Nin takes little validation from the pain her victims feel, instead drawing satisfaction from the progress she believes results from her efforts. Known as the Pain Artist, Nin has spent decades studying the inner workings of the body for many races, and is an expert at drawing out intense suffering with minimal overall injury. The resulting adrenaline rush in her victims is Nin's main area of focus, believing it to be the key to unlocking greater power and knowledge in those who find their way to her table.
Drawing Out the Truth The priority for Nin's job is retrieving secrets and information from those unwilling to share them, and Nin's expertise has let her excel in this area. But the work she prefers has shown great promise, letting Nin develop a technique reliant on electrical shocks to push individuals beyond their normal limits. The original experiments ended with grievous harm to her target, but Nin has managed to reduce the injury the process causes to minor lacerations and electrical burns. In return, her subjects are granted incredible strength and speed, greatly heightened senses, or even access to knowledge and skills they didn't even know they had. Rather than a boost of a creatures natural processes, Nin sees these benefits as the true state of a creature, an unlocking of their hidden potential.
Visions of an Artist When low on subjects but close to making a breakthrough, Nin has been more than willing to use herself as a research subject. While many would think this insanity, Nin believes its only rational, and asserts her sanity in the matter. While the procedures do always cause pain, leaving Nin herself with many scars, she never experiments on herself without full knowledge that the process isn't lethal. And as Nin would say, the results speak for themselves. Always intelligent, Nin has been able to increase not only her intellectual capacity, but the speed of her reasoning and mental actions, allowing her to out-think almost any challenge she faces. Additionally, through a combined technique of electrostatic neurostimulator and magical research, Nin has learned the art of spellcasting at an advanced rate, able to accomplish in a few short years what has taken others decades of unrelenting study. The results of Nin's work on herself is not all mental, but has led to a few physical effects, including increased speed and cutaneous durability, and most notably, a mutation which has caused Nin to grow an additional pair of arms directly below her original. While too weak to use in battle, Nin often uses these arms to quickly form the somatic components necessary for her spellcasting, or to multitask while in her workspace.
