Iys'myria

Vast swathes of wetlands, beautiful and deadly.

Iys'myria is the name of a continent located on the western side of Oszmorthorn. It is home to varying sentient species, most notably the Cilithorian Elves and Seureith Goblins. As the population of Cilithorian Elves greatly outnumbers the Seureith population, the Cilithorians often refer to Iys'myria as 'Cilithoria' out of national pride.   Iys'myria also has a large presence of supernatural beings, such as Woad Spirits, former Cilithorian Elves who had their souls removed from their bodies by a soul-sieve.

Geography

Cilithoria is a relatively large continent, located in the western central part of Oszmorthorn. A large portion of it is close to sea level, and because of this, there are plenty of marshes and swamplands throughout Iys'myria. Alchemical discoveries made by suggest that some inland bodies of water contain unique nutrients that allow trees and herbs to grow and thrive in the otherwise soft wetlands, and for different species of animal to make Iys'myria swamps their homes.   Located in the middle-west side of Iys'myria are the mountains of Ero'haim, a small range of mountains that act as natural barriers for the city of Cilithoria. The city of Cilithoria is built onto the side of the tallest mountain, Ero'thiallyr, extending from its base to the peak of the mountain. Ero'thiallyr's size allows Cilithoria to accommodate more than 10,000 people on its surface alone, and can be seen over the other smaller mountains surrounding it. Extending outward from the mountains are long, winding 'paths', or the Gheir'halmys, of swamps and forests, in between open valleys. The various paths that can be seen follow the rivers to large lakes or out to the sea.   Beneath Iys'myria are the Scy'lanic rivers that can sometimes be seen through rocky outcrops and openings. These rivers lead throughout Iys'myria, connected through underground systems.

Ero'haim

The Ero'haim mountain range is located west of Iys'myria's center and has five mountains. The one between them all, Ero'thiallyr, can only be seen by trekking through any of the Ero'haim mountains. The other four are considered to be simply Ero'haim, and have not been individually named.   The steep terrain makes the mountain ranges difficult to navigate. The old Cilithorian paths that lead through Ero'haim have been neglected for some time, leaving only a few landmarks on a weed-riddled stone path. Cilithorian towns built onto the side of the mountain will light beacons for wayfarers to follow at night.

Gheir'halmys

There are seven major Gheir'halmys paths leading from Ero'haim and fourteen minor paths; the former are defined by the larger waterways (such as rivers) with an abundance of vegetation surrounding them, while the latter are wetlands, marshes, and swamps that also support notable amounts of plants, animals, and insects.   The Gheir'halmys paths are home to the Seureith Goblins that live on Iys'myria. As many Seureith prefer to live close to, or under, the rivers, many tribes will choose to settle by the bank of a Gheir'halmys river. Due to the Seureith's abilities to shift the terrain through magic, many of the Gheir'halmys paths are the result of a Seureith warlock bringing water to the surface, or creating more land beneath an existing waterway.

Scy'lanic

The Scy'lanic river system that flows beneath Iys'myria remains a mystery to most. Due to the strong currents, lack of light, and the potential for other unseen threats and undiscovered predators lurking in Scy'lanic's waters, its depths have not yet been explored and documented. What exists as known information about the Scy'lanic system are mostly rumours and fiction.   One of the accounts suggest that a species of monstrous eels live in the Scy'lanic. Several Seureith Goblins had been chased into the system died to them while trying to escape. The warlocks of the tribe consulted the Woad Spirits, only to be told that even they did not know what it was.

Fauna & Flora

Iys'myria is famous for its wide assortment of edible fungi and clean water. The edges and all across the wetter areas, including inside marshes, have unique herbs and wild fruits such as white vein fungus, sweetseed fruit trees, rainberry bushes, fin grass, and marsh grapes, all of which can grow in and around bodies of water.   Insects are notoriously rampant around swamps and marshlands, but many of them are vital parts of the ecological systems. Swarms of bogflies will find plants and fruits to take back to the hive. The foods they choose typically have seeds; the bogfly will eat as much of the fruit as it needs to before dropping the seed and flying off with the rest to deposit in the colony hive.   Most of Iys'myria's predatory creatures are such as birds of prey, large reptiles, and omnivorous vermin and amphibians.

Natural Resources

Weeping Winds

During cold or wet seasons, the lower elevations of Iys'myria are subject to a unique condition where waves of fog sweep over the terrain. Called the 'Weeping Winds', the rolling fog further lowers local temperatures. The Weeping Winds leave behind a residue many have taken to calling 'Weeping Snow'. This residue is cold to the touch. It chills and can freeze various liquids.
