Ostrov

An island in the north Pacific Ostrov is a small island holding some 6000 people in one major city (Kirovetsgrad) and dozens of smaller settlements and homesteads numbering in the dozens. Ostrov was colonized by the Russian empire in the 1800's but was conquered and annexed by the Japanese empire following the battle of Tsushima and was then transferred back to the USSR following the defeat of Japan following WW2.   Following the fall of the USSR the island was able to gain independence and self governance and was contacted by an American company named Hawke Industries who set up a research base on the island but contrary to promises made during negotiation transported in all of their workers from outside the island and remained secretive and exclusive, only venturing out from their research base to obtain food and shipped goods while removing any and all visitors and trespassers via swift and sometimes brutal means.   Just over 3 months ago "the event" occured, the night was suddenly filled with a green glow as waves lapped across the night sky similar to the aurora borealis and hell was let loose across the island. Monsters and creatures from the depths of humanities minds and dreams stepped forth into our world and ate or massacred all they could find, with the few survivors scattering to the hills and forests.   Slowly the surviving people collected themselves and united around a strong leader, Jackson, and created a walled settlement to defend themselves against the now wandering beasts, and explored their new world, discovering new abilities that had begun to manifest in those with the power and skill to use it. Now Ostrov is a battlefield as the natives fight to reclaim their home and discover what has happened and how it can be reversed.
