Bonding Spells

Written by Freya G.

Bonding spells are spells used to create a supernatural bond between two creatures. These Bonds are used to improve emotional and memory sharing, as well as trust and love. This spell is traditionally used to Bond a Dragon and Rider. This spell can also be used for other Bonding types, such as Sibling, Partner, or even Familiar Bonding.

Effect

The effects of a correctly cast bonding spell are both incredibly useful and extremely efficient. The effects of a Bonding spell depend on the type of spell. For the traditional use of bonding spells, bonding of Dragon and Rider, the spell entails telekinetic communication over distances, memory and mind sharing abilities, regulation and awareness of emotions, and overall harmony in flight and fight. These effects are the same for the Bonding of witches and familiars. The effects of Sibling Bondings are almost identical to those of Dragon and Rider, but without telekinetic communication. Partner bonding being the most uncommon Bonding type, the effects are quite different. For Partner bonding, the effects can range depending on the partners. The most common effects are emotional awareness, memory sharing, and increased dedication and protectiveness.

Side/Secondary Effects

While a very common spell, it does require some study to perfect, as an incorrectly cast Bonding spell can result in dramatic mood swings and violent behavior in the individuals Bonded. In one particular case, two incorrectly bonded romantic partners became so obsessed and protective of each other, they each killed over six people who dared talk to the other. A law has since been put in place requiring bonding spells to be performed by a professional spell-caster.

Manifestation

During a Bonding spell, the individuals to be Bonded kneel within a spell circle, and either clasp hands or press their foreheads together. Clapsing hands is more effective for Bonding spells with more than 2 individuals being Bonded. The spell-caster will then speak the incantations required for each Bonding type. In accordance with the law requiring professional spell-casters to perform Bonding Spells, incantations will NOT be transcribed. After the incantation has been spoken, it will appear that an orb of glowing dust emerges from each bonded individual. These orbs will then float upwards and towards each other until combined into a swirling cloud of colors. This orb will then dissolve, showering the now Bonded individuals with glowing particles.

Source

The spell-caster performing the Bonding spell will draw energy from the to-be Bonded individuals to power the spell. This is why it is required for to-be Bonded individuals to be uninjured, healthy, and well rested. Cases in which unhealthy, wounded, or weak individuals attempt Bonding can lead to comas or death.

Discovery

It was the Dragons that discovered the art of Bonding. As Dragons are so in tune with nature, they had been studying and learning from Nature for eons. It was they who discovered how animals could bond with each other. The discovery was made when one Dragon, known as Paelle, witnessed an Untamed Bonding. Paelle witnessed the bonding of 2 thornwolves in the wild and determined how and for what purpose they had done so. She then informed other dragons, and the knowledge and practice of Bonding was perfected and spread throughout the continent. Years after, the first Dragon & Rider, Shaska and Elitza became the first pair to Bond. Over time, Bonding spells became more accessible, with different methods being discovered for different types of Bond, like Sibling, Partner, or Familiar.
