Chengjin Desert

Chengjin Desert (Chun-Chin), casually known as Cheng, or Jin, is a desert in Hongtao.

Geography

Chengjin is an arid desert that lacks moisture. The sand is comprised of gold, along with ruins made of packed sandstone. There is also a giant hole reaching somewhere deep within

Ecosystem

Chengjin is considered inhospitable to most humanoids. Desert Lizardfolk, certain plantfolk, and some elementals can thrive in this environment.

Ecosystem Cycles

Chengjin is the most bearable to live during the cold season of Nightwell. The wind towers pick up cold air making it enough for certain townsfolk to live. Hessex is where most people living in Chengjin migrate to an official land nearby or head out of Hongtao due to the heat it gives.

Localized Phenomena

The area is prone to sandstorms and harsh winds.

Natural Resources

Chengjin's resources have sand and stone, even a mix of both with sand packed together so hard to be stone. They are used to make malleable houses.

History

Long ago, Chengjin was a prosperous land, the only land that harbored natural vegetation in Hongtao. The king of Chengjin was not long for the world and sought a fable known as the elixir of immortality. They tasked the court wizard to craft the potion for them. However, the wizard had other plans. He made an elixir so sour the king manifested a black hole and was sucked in, along with the castle, its wealth, the greenery, and nearly all of their people. That black hole is placed at the heart of Chengjin and is still there today, sucking up all nearby sand. Albeit small, it is still dangerous to be near. Some say you can still hear cries of the absorbed king and his subjects inside.

Etymology

Chengjin name came from the color of their sands and what the former kingdom was, a revenue town.

Tourism

Many people visit Chengjin for its buried treasure. Some say to protect their wealth: villagers would bury their gold in the sand to keep away potential bandits. Another thing to note is the abandoned wind towers to make sure things keep cool. It is now a relic of the past, being reworked to make Chengjin more bearable in the heat of the Hessex season.
