Tchernac
The Mother of Shrine-Beasts | The City of Funeral Pyres | The City of Tents
Tchernac is the name the Rhonir have given both to the largest of the Ghostlands shrine-beasts, and the settlement built into its interior—a tent-city built haphazardly around a permanent core of temples. As the Rhonir are largely nomadic, the population of Tchernac fluctuates with time and chance, but even at its highest the town is dwarfed by the shrine-beast around it. Though inert, this shrine-beast is host to a mysterious, biomechanical ecosystem; at times, during periods of mysterious activity, the Rhonir find themselves forced to fend these strange beings off.
The temple complex at Tchernac’s heart is home to the tchaya, the Rhonir shaman-caste, and as such the town holds an important place in Rhonir culture in spite of its size. If at all possible, the dead of the Rhonir are brought to Tchernac to receive their funerary rites, and the smell of funeral pyres ever hangs over the bedlam of the streets.
