Ehranite

An awakened material: Ehranite (also spelled "Erronite") is wood enhanced by alchemy. It is the primary substance of the Ehran tree.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The material is white, producing a faint illumination by which it can be seen in darkness, but is not enough to see by. It has a slight give to it, but is not soft, and has a smooth texture similar to that of fine linen.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It has seemingly unlimited compressive strength: when weight is added, the material will condense, but there is no known force by which it will be destroyed. Its tensile strength and shear resistance are similar to other very hard woods, such as oak, though these strengths increase as it grows in density.   It combusts at a high temperature of over 2,000 Fahrenheit, making it highly resistant to fire compared to other woods.

Origin & Source

The first Ehran tree was grown in 17,980 BC. The properties of its wood have been carefully examined since, but healthy cuttings were not produced until just over 5 thousand years ago, and the trees have never been subjected to considerable testing.

Life & Expiration

Wood which is not preserved or maintained in good health will shrivel, and if not preserved will lose its magical properties, disintegrating into basic carbon compounds over a period of weeks or months.

History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

Ehran trees are considered sacred, and so their wood is never removed from a tree; moreover, a tree that dies is buried with honors, its wood disintigrating afterward. The trees' only constructive use is as a habitation in the capital, Ehranith.
