Half-Elves

Half-elves are a race that neither belongs nor is exiled. They are estranged yet cared for and still they may never find their own. Half-elves are a group of mixed blood and are constantly searching for a purpose in life to call their own. Half-elves share the patience of their elven parent but the reckless edge and adaptability of their human.  

Half Elf Traits

 

Age

Half-elves mature at the same rate humans do and reach adulthood around the age of 20. They live much longer than humans, however, often exceeding 180 years.  

Size

Half-elves are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.  

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.  

Darkvision

Thanks to your elf blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.  

Fey Ancestry

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.  

Skill Versatility

You gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.  

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Elvish, and one extra language of your choice.  

Half Elf Variants

Some half-elves in Oraereum have a racial trait in place of the Skill Versatility trait. If your DM allows it, your half-elf character can forgo Skill Versatility and instead take the elf trait Keen Senses or one of the following traits based on your elf parentage.  

Elf Weapon Training (High or Wood Elf Heritage)

You have proficiency with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow.  

Cantrip (High Elf Heritage)

You know one cantrip of your choice from the wizard spell list. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for it.  

Fleet of Foot (Wood Elf Heritage)

Your base walking speed increases to 35 feet.  

Mask of the Wild (Wood Elf Heritage)

You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.  

Dark Elf Resistance

You have advantage against saving throws against Poison and have resistance to poison damage.  

Dark Elf Swim Speed

You have a swimming speed of 30 feet.

Personality

To be half-elven is to live an estranged life. Half-elves are generally treated with some amount of social stigmata but are cared for and given a home by their family. If raised with elves half-elves always feel restless and too full of life to sit still like other elves. In human lands the half-blood feels different, older in mind than in body and eventually tires of childish things long before they themselves cease to be a child. As such half-elves always feel apart and never accepted. Always alone.  

Relations

Half-elves generally inherit the relationship values of their parents and the community they grew up in. Most however tend to have a more open and accepting view of others because of their own situations. Many also believe that humans and elves can live in harmony, after all they are living proof.  

Alignment

Half-elves do not tend towards any particular alignment - this they inherited from their human side. As such half-elves can sometimes turn out very lawful in a land of chaotic elves or vice versa.  

Half-Elf Lands

Half-elves have no lands of their own and those few that don't make a life for themselves in their homeland often wander to search for their own identity and become adventurers. Most half-elves seek to find where they belong and many half-elves raised among humans or elves long to see how the other side of their life looks.  

Religion

Half-elves again trend towards no one religion though many who are raised by an elven community take to the Lord of light, Teverus.
