ORACLE

The story begins as many do, with a wizard lusting for power. He claimed that he’d gain “power across worlds” and raved about becoming the king of the infinite. As these stories go, he was killed, after hundreds of adventurers died trying. But his ritual was not stopped, not completely. The peak of Heavensong Mountain became the epicenter for The Tear. A rip across realities, severing the boundaries between planes and worlds the likes of which were only dreamed about. Along with The Tear, came a prophecy, one that every seer worth their salt heard all at once: “Seven pillars pierce the boundaries, by their will, all is connected.”   With the boundary broken, new tears in reality found their way across the world. These Rifts took the form of portals and distortions in the world, leading to what became known as The Age of Cataclysm. The majority of the world was united in looking for a solution, and one was found in Evurlin Ladenria, an Elven scholar who had been researching the Rifts. They funded him to expand his studies and founded the Organization for Rift Assessment, Closure, and Long-Term Examination, otherwise known as ORACLE. ORACLE’s goals were to not only to study the rifts, but to protect the people from them and to eventually find the Seven Pillars, hoping that they’ll be the key to fix The Tear.   500 years have passed, ORACLE’s strength and influence has grown in proportion to their knowledge of the Rifts. Their headquarters has expanded to the size of a city to accommodate for their increased workforce and research needs. Nearly a third of the world’s population now works for ORACLE as the need for their services has only increased. The desires of these agents is many, some believers still hope to see an end to The Tear, but many are doubtful their life will ever change. Some of the realists seek knowledge and the mysteries of the universe, others seek the power and fortune held in these new worlds. Whatever the reason, the vast, endless universe awaits.
