Pimsler

The Pimsler is technically a brand rather than a class of object, but everyone calls all of them Pimslers regardless of who actually made it.
The Pimsler is highly sophisticated multipurpose laser tool. Anything that you can use a laser for, the Pimsler can do. And, in space, that counts for a lot. Pimslers are used as cutting tools or weapons, as communications arrays, ladar scanners, point defense deflectors, spectroanalysis, flashlights, and everything in between. Pimslers exist as ship-mounted laser arrays, as well as handheld (or more often: suit mounted) equipment.
While all of these functions exist outside of the Pimsler as well in specialized equipment, the compact functionality and ease of use makes the Pimsler (and its many imitator brands) indespensible. Most developed star systems have a network of Pimsler satellites and stations that act as listening posts, communications relays, and defense platforms all in one simple package.
