The Second Cataclysm: Unseen Realm's Raining Despair
While the surface of Omnia was facing a tragedy and mass extinction, The Unseen Realm was experiencing the greatest war of their lives. Their conflict with humans seemed to carry on even millennia after its greatest display. Yet the previous altercation pales in comparison to the Second Cataclysm. The mass destruction the Unseen Realm faced, not only affected the realm, but the morale of its denizens. Not only was this the second time they've faced a Cataclysm, this was the day a Primordial died in their eyes. There were five Primordials at the time with one candidate who could challenge the strongest Primordial Huara, Zaida, who not only challenged their power, but claimed her heart. They were faced with a heavy dilemma that determined the future of their realm. Cataclysms have a terrifying power, corruption of the soul. The Unseen Realm houses trillions of souls through the history of Omnia, and Cataclysms send them into frenzied rage and agony. The soul is torn apart, and stitched back together, a cruel and painful condition. Even worse, these souls can possess living beings and spread this possession like a virus, and the process to undo such an occurrence was lost to time. The Unseen Realm was at the Cataclysm's mercy. Thousands of demons were fighting for their lives. Some were lucky to die, some were taken over and suffered the agony of the souls. Soul Torrents were out of control and demons were forced to kill their own kin. The Primordials did everything to save as many as possible, as Devils were leading forces to intercept their frenzied kin. The Primoordials knew something drastic had to be done to quell such catastrophic violence. However, they all had impractical solutions, so focused on saving their kin. Huara was different, she knew everyone could not be saved, and the candidate she took with her knew this. This candidate was Zaida, her rival, who cared deeply for the Unseen Realm and wished to save the souls and possessed demons just like the other Primordials. So when she heard her own lover offer the idea of a culling, she was disgusted. Huara wanted what's best for the realm more than anything and was torn between the potential extinction of her people to save the very things causing it, or culling of the half of the population that was already possessed. She knew her fellow comrades had no way to quell this threat. Huara made up her mind, and started fueling her magic with the feelings of her rage, sorrow and sworn duty. She would do what the others didn't want to, and for that, she was attacked by her own lover, along with every other Primordial. The battle was fierce and visceral, as almost every attack could be fatal, but through their regeneration and willpower, the battle stretched for hours. Demons are extraordinarily resilient, and Primordials are in a league of their own. Huara would go on to gravely wound and incapacitate every single Primordial and was barely any more lenient with Zaida. However, she was given a scar across the right side of her upper body. Zaida would not allow her to come out unscathed, her will would be recognized. As Huara rose her arm to unleash her power upon the Cataclysm, Zaida casted a curse upon the wounds of Huara's arm, and black colored magic would gnaw at them, making them burn with pain that would drive even Primordials mad. Even so, the will of the strongest wouldn't shake for those it wished to protect, no matter the cost. Huara would not stop and as her arm raised, a shining ray of black and yellow magic would stretch across the realm, for all to see. The light even caught the attention of the corrupted souls. Only seconds had passed, yet to all, it felt like a lifetime, and before they knew it, magic rained down and eradicated the frenzied demons, but this didn't only destroy the body, Huara poured all her soul magic into the attack. This destroyed every soul within the demons as well, a taboo in the Unseen Realm. The realm could only watch in disbelief and sorrow as they watched one of their most beloved and idolized leaders, annihilate their kin, the souls they swore to protect and give peace, and her own composure. The cries of Huara roared throughout the realm, not of pain or anger, but of guilt, sorrow, and grief, knowing what she was doing may save many, but would destroy eons of existence for even more so. Cataclysmic soul torrents were destroyed along with the souls stitched within them. The cull lasted only moments, yet the sorrowful emotions of everyone made it feel like days. After the chaos, Huara was drained of almost all her magic energy and all of her soul magic was used to cull the Cataclysm, it would take centuries before it would fully regenerate. Huara, laid there, partially transformed, her scales returning to their dormant state. On her knees, arm gravely disfigured and hardly regenerating. Her eyes lost almost all of her life, and she could barely move. She looked up, and saw the woman she loved stare at her, wounded, yet with fury in her eyes, but soon, sorrow filled her eyes, as tears of blood left her eyes.
"How could you? The very people you swore to protect, you killed without hesitation," Zaida's voice was trembling. "My sister, is gone forever, no afterlife, no solace, she is just, gone..."
Huara could only sit in silence, knowing nothing she would say would change what she did. Behind Zaida, came the other Primordials, ready to punish Huara. Some wanted to kill her, some wanted to imprison her, one even suggested torture. As they walked forward, Zaida's magic flared with malicious intent. She looked at them with sideye, staring daggers so sharp, they felt as if they would lose their life at any moment.
"No one touches her, No one kills her. As we currently are, I can kill all four of you if I wanted. You all have such simple and physical punishments. You lack cruelty. What she did violated every taboo placed for demonkind. No, she deserves something far worse." Zaida looked back at Huara, still unmoving. Her expression softened. "You'd either keep her in the very realm she betrayed or offer her the same eternal peace she robbed from countless souls. She will live, burdened with the grief and pain of what she has done, banished from her home. That is her punishment."
The Primordials all looked with resentment and rage, but Zaida's magic put fear right back into them. As they soon realized, she had fully healed, and not only that, her power hard sharply rose to the same level as Huara's full strength. All the emotions that raced through her mind had transcended her to heights never seen before. The Primordials complied and offered to lead her to the portal to the mortal realm.
"Can you even stand, mistress?" Zaida asked Huara, still showing proper respect. Huara was silent yet, through sheer will could stand and walk, her Primordial power fading. She could see her life flash before her eyes, and her memories fading. "Good."
The group flew across the battlefields towards the Primordial Palace. Approaching the portal within the depths of the broken palace, Zaida could not help but keep looking at Huara, as she saw many demons roar in anger at her presence. Despite that, most looked saddened and disappointed. Huara was shown the portal and instructed to step through. On the other side of the portal, was a lush forest. Huara stepped through and looked back, at her former lover, at her former comrades, and the realm she called home, one last time as the portal closed.
She spoke softly, fumbling her words, "I-I'm...sorry..."
As the portal closed she saw Zaida well up, before the portal disappeared. As she looked around at the forest, she could see in the distance the barren wastelands covered in purple magic veins within the soil, Cataclysm. Looking into the cracked sky, she roared letting all of the mortal realm hear her venting the bundle of emotions she built up. Moments after, she collapsed, crying blood, silent yet in emotional agony. For the first time in her entire life, the Strongest Primordial Demon felt true, unadulterated despair.
