Glimmer

Glimmer is an illicit drug typically traded throughout the Eastern Fang of Olora.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Glimmer looks like a pink liquid that shines in direct light. It is typically contained in small bottles for personal use or large kegs for transport.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Due to its intense nature, Glimmer is almost always deadly if taken straight from the bottle. The preferred method is to mix it with smoked greenroot in a pipe in order to get a kick from the drug without directly ingesting it.   When taken this way, Glimmer typically causes a feeling of euphoria and can cause the user to see hallucinations. The drug can cause brain and lung damage from prolonged use.

Origin & Source

Glimmer comes from Glimmerleaf, a plant that grows in many of the forests around the Soluts Kingdom. Glimmerleaf has also been found in some areas of Melgius and Velrune, though it is far more rare. The plant is pressed with a high amount of force which causes the liquid to leak from it, and when combined with a small amount of Displacer Beast blood, forms the drug.   The first use of Glimmer was during the First Age of War, when travelling merchants known as 'Dark Peddlers' sold it to local markets and hospitals, who would in turn sell it to soldiers to help ease PTSD and other stress related disorders from combat. The drug became highly sought after, and soon more local dealers started producing the drug, despite soem fot he negative side effects it was known to cause.   However, due to the precise mixture needed to create the pure form of the drug, it was difficult for these local producers to get the mixture correct. This caused many people to experience negative side effects, some ultimately being lethal.   During the Age of Growth, King Folvor Greycollar outlawed the drug, and created a task force specifically charged with finding illicit drug dens and destroying as much of the liquid as possible. Soon, other kingdoms also outlawed the drug.   This crackdown helped push the drug out of common use, but there are still many organizations that produce and sell the drug on the black markets worldwide.
