Vre'cki, the Undernation

It is quiet, and the darkness creeps from each corner of the room. The flickering lights of the few torches there are in this space are blue, a definite sign that this is no ordinary day for the people of Vre'cki. In fact, today is a holy day. The date on which the scriptures say that one day soon, their monstrous savior will rise from the depths and consume the world. Today, the Vre'cki queen kicks off the festivities with a ritual sacrifice of one of her own children. She straps the shivering child to the table and whispers silently in their ear, reminding them that it will be over swiftly, and the cool embrace of their lord will take them. The child nods solemnly, and does not resist as both of their pincer hands are restrained and their mother looms over them with a jagged riteknife. They know that the suffering is temporary. The Deep One will consume them, just as it will soon consume all.

Structure

The cult nation of the Vre'cki is headed by a crabfolk Queen, the Chal'yekhi .
Directly beneath her, is the Grand Vizier. Generally male, he assists the queen with whatever she may need. Though he holds high station, he completely humbles himself before her exaltedness, serving her in whatever ways she may require. When the queen dies, he will be responsible for picking the heiress. It is said that the vizier recieves a divine revelation of the identity of the new Queen. Generally, this is another high-ranking member within the court, but it's not out of the question for a seemingly random woman off the street to be selected. If the vizier and the queen are both dead at the same time, then the Archbishop of Ritual may select the new vizier, who then selects the new queen.
While traditionally gendered positions in society, the roles of the Queen and the Vizier have been known to periodically be given people of different genders, or to transition after they were selected.   A court of archbishops helps to deal with any matters the Queen or the Vizier do not personally wish to attend to. There are about a hundred or so of these archbishops, each with their own distinct group of followers and employees that are structured according to the archbishop's needs. They're all in charge of something different, ranging from bishop of fishing to bishop of war, and they tend to travel a lot to attend to their duties. Unlike the vizier and the Chal'yekhi, which must be crabfolk, archbishops may be any individual regardless of race, gender, or sexuality.

Public Agenda

The Vre'cki very clearly have one goal, which they are willing to do anything to accomplish. Bring about the rising of their god, The Deep One, to flood and consume the entire world.

Assets

The Vre'cki are more advanced than people like to give them credit for, especially when it comes to magic. they have very little land, but yet a ridiculous amount of gold and souls to power their spells with. This is mostly how their people, spread throughout the world, are fed and accounted for while on their pilgrimages.
As the nation closest to the underworld, they also have a close relationship with such beings such as demons, the drow, and just about any underworld creepie-crawlie you can think of.

History

The cult has operated from within the shadows for millennia. The crabfolk originated from the water, and it's likely that if anybody really knows what lies at the bottom of the ocean, it's this cult.
After years of operating from the shadows of the tide and the cliffs, Imujech Chal'yekhi appeared at the signing of the Treatise, initiating the Vre'cki into the world as a proper nation, for reasons that are still not clear to the world at large.

Religion

The Vre'cki government itself is a religious organization, a cult worshipping The Deep One, an eldritch entity they believe will one day rise and consume the world. They believe that, for their service, the Vre'cki will be among the first to be mercifully consumed by their Lord, and avoid an eternity of suffering within his first belly. Those who live in Vre'cki territory are also known to worship demon lords and other creatures of the dark. There are also a healthy number of not-cultist people in Vre'ckian territory, but generally, the Vre'ckian stereotype is that of the crazy cultist with no soul left to sell.

Agriculture & Industry

Vre'ckians survive on a healthy amount of Aquaculture. They have wide open fields to the southeast of their continent, but most land they have is too far north to grow anything in. Even in the few supposedly fertile patches of land they have, any attempt to plant crops yields the same mysterious results. They all drown. Even if efforts are taken to dry the soil, the crops drown, everytime. If Vre'ckians know why, they haven't cared to talk about it for a while, and they just moved on to other forms of survival.
What the Vre'cki lack in natural resources, they make up for in magical prowess. If you need something done with regards to magic, you recruit a Vre'cki mage, who will generally pump up their magic with a soul or three.
