Nanofacturing Revolution

The Nanofacturing Revolution was a proliferation of breakthroughs in Drexler nanoassembly and precision manufacturing control technology that made hyper-banal space travel, widespread torch drives, FTL technology, and a host of other modern technologies and infrastructures possible.   Though nanoengineering and Drexler-type nanoassemblers were in regular use long before the Nanofacturing Revolution, they were not yet robust enough to permit many of the engineering feats and high-precision manufacturing at mass production scales characteristic of modern production.   Pre-revolution nanorobotics made much heavier use of directly biomimetic technologies. Most commonly, mechanisms derived from microbiology were adapted with materials that were easier to manufacture and control and integrated with nanoelectromechanical control units better able to retain data and carry out programmed directives than simply bioengineered organisms. Drexler-type nanoassemblers, while they were often used in industry, were restricted to more limited prototyping and slow manufacturing processes due to their fragility and the expense of culturing new batches. High-precision nanorobot control technologies were expensive as well, their most mundane use being among neurotechnicians, who demanded granular control for smooth transfer-uploading.   This began to change in the 3300s due to a confluence of developments.
