Wolden

The town of Wolden is the second largest town in the kingdom of Asmaria. It sits near the Eastern coast of Southern Asmaria and is only half a day's trek from the Ruby Mire.   It boasts Gothic architecture with spires and chimneys that lend a dark and unsettling atmosphere to the town's skyline. The buildings themselves are made of wood and lumber, all tightly packed against one another behind the thick town walls.   The town is governed by Earl 0-0. The Earl is fairly amicable and interacts with the other guilds, though since he was raised within the Temple of Blades, the second largest Enlandic Church in the kingdom, he allows them to make the bulk of the town's laws. Earl 0-0 also has a group of representatives which interact with the other guilds on his behalf, each acting as an ambassador of sorts for each respective guild. These representatives are known as the Benevolent Hand and meet twice a week to discuss each guild's needs and complaints.  There are several guilds within the town, along with a few dozen gangs which have sprung up in the dark alleyways and gambling houses on the streets.   The Temple of Blades is the seat of power for the Knights of Tartarus' Eldrikath Branch, an Inquisition and knightly order which seeks to protect the innocent from the horrors of the night. The Temple of the Blades and the Eldrikath Branch is currently overseen by the 5 Grandmasters.  The Northwind Institute of Mercury is a college for Scholars and members of the Pupils of the Eye. This college caters to those wishing to learn more about the world and the monsters that dwell in it. The college is under the guidance of the Sages, a group of renowned Scholars who are the headmasters at the college.  The Frosts of Fortune, a Merchant's Guild, have their guild hall near the west of town. William Urathem oversees the guild hall and advises those within his guild on where to set up shop and how to conduct business. The guild hall itself, known as the Golden Terrace, oversees Fortune's Market which is located in the central plaza.  All manner of gangs and unscrupulous individuals hide in the underbelly of the town. These men and women scurry around the law, some taking up thievery and others delving into the business of murder.  In truth, the town of Wolden is a large, winding hub of trade and intrigue where no day passes without some new gossip gripping the citizenry by the ear and pulling them back into their homes for fear of ending up at the wrong place at the wrong time.
