What would the ultimate technology look like? Is there an endpoint to the development of science? The Human World of the 24th Century is obsessed by these questions and has summed them up in one word: Sirakoth, the absolute technology.   What exactly is the Sirakoth? Does it have to be built? Will it build itself? Should we prevent it’s emergence? Has it been there, since the origin of the Universe, waiting to be found? Nobody knows... and that ignorance is what gives the Sirakoth its real power. Engineers, zealots, Luddites, mystics, Gnostics, alchemists, social utopians... Everybody has a reason to search for the Sirakoth. Hubris has a thousand faces, and it is never as dangerous as when it sees its own reflection in others.   In a world of obsession, everything becomes a clue. Mega-consortiums fight each other for every piece of the puzzle, counterfeiters have inserted so many false leads in our historical records that we cannot distinguish fact from fiction anymore, whole millenarian movements are engineered just to distract a competitor, fortunes are dilapidated to raid empty vaults on the Moon.   Meet Ofermod, our World infected by the mirage of the Sirakoth.
