Travel in the Region of Zakhiir

Travelling between the towns of the region was done either by foot, by caravan, by ship, or by the fantastical airships, if one could afford it.   The areas between the towns were dangerous, and it was slow and cumbersome, borderline crazy, to travel between places by foot.   Travelling by mount was possible if the mount was suited for desert travel, and if provisions was brought for feeding the mount as well as the party along the way.   Travelling by caravan wasn't faster than travelling by mount, but it was much cheaper, and there were safety in numbers. On the other hand, one would have to wait for the opportunity to present itself, or organize a caravan by themselves. Caravans to the nearby settlements were usually arranged on a weekly basis, though daily caravans were organized between Zakhiir and Bashrakh as an exception.   Travelling by ship was convenient, reasonably priced, and sometimes even pleasant. It was fairly cheap, but mostly efficient for travelling from the West to the East, since that was the way the Bloodwash River flowed.   Travelling by airship was a fantastical experience, and it was much faster than the other options - if one could afford it. Most airships generally flew at speeds up to 10 mph, although some operators claimed they could go faster. There were no permanent routes between settlements, so passage would have to be booked with an independently operating Sky Captain or Winged Corsair. While most Sky Captains only accepted jobs to foreign regions, the Winged Corsairs were more lenient to accept smaller jobs. The service and price reflected that flexibility.

Caravansaries

Those that travelled by foot, mount or caravan could rest at strategically placed caravansaries along the most frequented paths. These structures were fairly simple in design, though some of the caravansaries along the longer trade roads to Lymia and other destinations were much more prominent. Those that could be found in the immediate region had space for storage of transported goods, stalls for mounts, and a small shrine for religious worship. The caravansaries along the Bloodwash River also had fresh water wells and simple bath installments that were kept running by operators from Zakhiir.    It was occasionally possible to find wandering merchants and other travelers that stayed for a while longer on these stations, sometimes to get away for a little bit, other times to prey on unprepared wanderers by offering food, drinks and other commodities at high prices.

Prices of transport generally depended upon distance. Food and drinks were generally not included in the transport fee.
